Your child will bring the Homework Folder home every day. The pockets
are clearly marked "Left at Home" and "Right Back to School." I spend a lot of
time at the beginning of the year establishing a routine the class will
follow for the entire year. Please assist your child and me by taking time
each afternoon or evening to check the Homework Folder, complete the
homework, read the notes, and return the appropriate materials to school the
following day.
Worksheets and spelling assignments are DUE THE FOLLOWING DAY.
TIC TACK TOE HOMEWORK: Students choose a minimum of 3 assignment per week.
Please clip written work to the grid and return on or before the due date noted.
Policy: During each quarter, if a student has three late or missing
homework assignments, a check will be recorded on the grade report. Late
homework will be accepted, however, it will still apply to the limit of
three.
Please remember that completion of homework affects your child's report card.
Not ALL homework is written; it equally important that you spend time every
day working with your child in the following ways:
READING: 15 - 30 minutes daily with a parent. If your child is assigned a "Take
Home" story, please read it as a portion of the assigned homework.
VOCABULARY PRACTICE: Vocabulary words will be assigned with most reading
selections. We practice these words extensively at school, however, home
practice is also necessary. The High Frequency and vocabulary words are
posted each week on the ANNOUNCEMENTS site.
SPELLING: Sentences are assigned on Monday; they are due on Tuesday. In
the event of a shortened week, the words will be assigned on the first day
of the week and will be due the following day. Your child is a beginning
writer, allow them to construct the sentences with parental assistance as
needed. Neat and legible handwriting is expected.
MATH FACTS: Practice addition and subtraction facts 5 minutes every day. If
you want additional practice, wait an hour and practice another 5 minutes.
I've listed websites you may want to use for fact practice.
