Happy New Year to all!
Where each grade is in their respective books:
6th Grade - Ancient India, then onto Ancient China. We are delving into the
civilizations that were begun in India and how Buddhism began. It is quite
interesting. From there we will move onto China and learn how civilizations
began there and the impact of Hinduism as well as how Confucious and his
philosophy affected the people of China. We will read quotes of Confucious
and determine the meanings and how they affect us even today.
7th Grade - The U.S. Constitution! We begin our blue books to study in
detail the many aspects of the Constitution and what it means to us today.
This will take a few weeks, but it is well worth the time so students
understand the making of laws as well as election procedures. During this
time the students will also be involved in a Mock Congress situation in which
they will have to research and try to pass,or block, the passing of a bill.
8th Grade - America becoming a world power. We are studying how the U.S.
transitioned from Isolationism to Imperialism. We will study the Spanish
American War as well the building of the Panama Canal. The foreign policies
and our relationship with other countries will lead us into the era of WWI.
As you can see, we are quite busy, but there is also much to learn regarding
current events. We touch upon some of the current facts as well as our
daily "Fact for the Day" regarding anniversaries of historical events.
