Three and Four Year Old News

May 12th - May 23rd

Reminder: No School on May 23rd-All School Institute
No School on May 26th-Memorial Day

We are down to the final days! The three years olds only have 2 class days
left and then their park day! I will not be in school on May 29 due to a
preschool institute in Joliet. That means, I will only see my threes one
more class day (May 22nd) and then at park day! Our fours have a few more
days, but not many! Their park day is on June 3rd and then they are done!

The butterflies have been in the chrysalis stage now for seven days and
should be emerging any day now. Ms. Fran is going to check on them after
mass on Sunday and will bring flowers for the expectant butterflies. The
butterflies will stay with us for about a week living on a mixture of fresh
fruit and sugar water. Then we will release the butterflies into the
Children's Garden when they are ready.

The four year old classes planted gourds, beans and morning glory seeds that
will be used next year in kindergarten class with Sister Michael. Mrs. Denk
placed bamboo in the Children's Garden and gave us seeds to use to plant.
The fours dug a trench along the bamboo and each child planted their seeds.
We then watered the seeds and said a prayer asking God to watch over our
seeds and help our seeds grow. We then planted sunflowers in our classroom
and took the pots home to watch them grow.

Next week we will be painting and creating flowers with wallpaper and paint.
We will also be going to see our kindergarten buddies for the last time on
Wednesday. We will be making tissue butterflies with our buddies! We will be
finishing table games next week too! The kids all did fabulous this year! I
am so proud of the children who are reading and want to read! Keep up the
great work! Remember to review what we have worked on this year because so
much is lost over the summer.

The three year olds were busy cutting, gluing and painting flowers and
ladybugs this week! Inside our ladybugs, we asked the children what "bugs"
them. Most of our responses were, "It bugs me when mosquitoes bite me." Next
week we will finger-painting and playing with play-doh.

The threes are very excited about the upcoming butterflies. They check them
daily and use their whisper voices when observing them in their pupa shell.
They are very eager to show visitors to our classroom the life cycle of a
butterfly. We have the life cycle on the wall and the children bring the
visitors to the wall and show them each change the caterpillar goes through
before becoming a butterfly. I am very proud of the new language they have
developed.

Enjoy the last few weeks of class!

May Songs for Fours

M-O-M
“If you’re Happy and You Know It”

If you love your M-O-M, blow her a kiss.
If you love your M-O-M, blow her a kiss.
If you love your M-O-M, tell her once and then again.
If you love your M-O-M blow her a kiss.

If you love your M-O-M, give her a hug.
If you love your M-O-M, give her a hug.
If you love your M-O-M, tell her once and then again.
If you love your M-O-M, give her a hug.

If you love your M-O-M, say “I love you!”
If you love your M-O-M, say “I love you!”
If you love your M-O-M, tell her once and then again.
If you love your M-O-M, say “I love you!”

We Love Mothers
“Frere Jacques”

We love mothers.
We love mothers
Yes, we do; yes we do
Mothers are for hugging. (hug self)
Mothers are for kissing. (blow kiss)
We love you; yes, we do.

God Made

God made the plants,
(cup hands around face like a flower)

And god made the trees
(spread arms like branches)

Birds that fly
(flap wings)

And fish in the seas.
((put hands together and wriggle like a fish)

God made the animals
(point toward heaven)

From monkeys to bees
(Boys dance like monkeys and girls buzz like bees)

God made you
(point to a friend)

And God made me.
(point to self)

God Made Me
“Three Blind Mice”

God made me, God made me.
Yes, He did. Yes, He did.
He planned me; He formed me; He gave me life.
Now I’ll live for Him and do what’s right,
For God made me.
God made me.

Metamorphosis!
Here is an egg all round and green.
(hand in fist)

It isn’t as squishy as it might seem.
The egg breaks open and splits in half.
(hands open up)

Out comes a caterpillar, newly hatched.
(index finger points like a caterpillar)

He eats and eats and eats quite well.
(stuff food in mouth)

Then he wraps himself up in a pupa shell
(hold hands in prayer position)

He waits and waits until the time is right
His butterfly wings emerge for flight.
(lock thumbs and stretch fingers)
Sleepy Caterpillars

“Let’s go to sleep,” the little caterpillar said
(bend fingers into palm)

Ad they tucked themselves into their beds
They will awaken by and by
(slowly unfold and hold fingers up)

And each one will be a lovely butterfly!
(hands make flying motion)

Flitter, Flutter, Butterfly
“Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”

Flitter, flutter, butterfly,
Flying in the big blue sky.
Flutter high and flutter low.
Flutter fast and flutter slow.
Flitter, flutter, butterfly,
Flying in the big blue sky.

From Caterpillar to Butterfly

I’m a caterpillar so cute and green.
I’m inside a chrysalis and can’t be seen
Wait a little while and you will see why.
I’ll pop out as a butterfly!

Once I Saw a Buttefly
“Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”

Once I saw a butterfly
Dancing in the clear blue sky
Through the meadow he would go,
Flying high and flying low.
Once I saw a butterfly
Dancing in the clear blue sky.

Father’s Day
“Pop! Goes the Weasel”

Father’s Day comes once a year,
It’s when we celebrate
The love we have for all our dads.
Fathers are great!
