September 29th - October 3rd, 2008

The four year olds finished our “M” cans in class and the kids are doing
great! We came up with 31 different words that begin with the “M” sound in
the morning class and 30 in the afternoon class. Keep up the great work.
Next week we will start the letter “T”. The children have been practicing
printing the letter “M”, listening for the “M” sound in tongue twisters and
reading “M” books the last two weeks. Hopefully, they have mastered this
letter and sound!

In art the fours decorated our room with watercolor leaves. The children
used different fall colored dabbers to make their leaves. The leaves now
adorn our windows in our classroom. We created a Autumn wreath to hang
with our kindergarten buddies! We will be doing this activity once a month
with the kindergarteners to allow the preschoolers to feel comfortable in
the kindergarten classroom and to make new friends.

The three year old classes welcomed fall in their own way too! We started
dressing Weather Bear and his sister in warmer clothes now that the mornings
are a bit chilly. We also changed the calendar and put pumpkins and leaves
up to count. We read books about Autumn and then made a head band with
leaves to welcome Autumn. On Friday, we made an apple pie. We sponge
painted a plate brown, added some apples, and then sprinkled the plate with
cinnamon. We learned many new songs this week, but are still singing our
old ones too.

The three year olds have started reciting the Hail Mary at carpet time. I
recite a few words and then they recite them after me. We have practiced
the first half and will be adding the second half next week. Please
practice with your child even if it is while you are driving in the car!

Both classes jumped, rolled, and tossed our fall leaves during carpet time
after we sang our new songs. This was a huge hit! The children discussed
the changes that are occurring in their yards right now. Most said, the
leaves were changing colors and falling down. Keep your eyes open for more
changes!

Our sensory table is big! We colored rice last week and turned it red,
yellow, and orange. We then added it to our sensory table along with
spiders, cups, sifters, measuring cups, and spoons. The children are trying
very hard to keep the rice inside the table, but we have had some mishaps.
The children then sweep up the rice and put it back in the table. Great job
boys and girls!

In religion, our Seeds program talked about how we are all growing. We
talked about eating the right foods, getting enough sleep and exercise, and
reading to make our minds smart. The kids did great with this lesson. We
said that God created them and wants them to grow and flourish. We talked
about plants, animals and people and the way they grow and continue to
grow.

I hope you have made it this far! Regarding snack, our moms with children
who have severe peanut allergies have added the following items to the list:

Teddy Grahams
Goldfish
Poptarts
Entenmans Donut Holes
Buttermaid Donuts
Peppridge Farm Regular Crackers

As long as it is peanut free or made in a peanut free facility, it is okay
to serve. Ms. Fran and I will still check ingredients daily to ensure the
safety of our children.

Have a great weekend!

Orange and red, orange and red.
The leaves on the trees turn orange and red,
All through the town.

The leaves on the trees come tumbling down,

The leaves on the trees come tumbling down,
All through the town.

The leaves on the ground go swish, swish, swish,
Swish ,swish, swish, swish, swish, swish.
The leaves on the ground go swish, swish, swish
All through the town.

All around the town.

The siren on the fire truck goes woo,woo
The firefighters on board bump along
The firefighters put the fire out.

Four Year Old Songs for Fall

Four Seasons
(tune: This Old Man)

Winter, spring, summer fall,
There are four seasons in all.
They bring us snow and wind and rain and sun.
Every season has some fun!

Four in One
(tune: Clementine)

Four seasons, four seasons,
Four seasons in one year.
Spring then summer, fall then winter,
Four seasons in one year.

Autumn Leaves
(tune: Mary Had A Little Lamb)

Autumn leaves are falling down,
Falling down, falling down.
Autumn leaves are falling down,
Yellow, red and brown.

Rake them up as they all down
As they fall down , as they fall down.
Rake them up as they fall down.
Yellow, red and brown.

Here comes the wind on a windy day,
A windy day, a windy day.
Here comes the wind on a windy day.
And blows them all away

Fall is Here
(tune: Frere Jacques)

Fall is here. Fall is here.
Yes, it is. Yes, it is.
All the leaves are falling.
All the leaves are falling.
Crunch, crunch, crunch.
Crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch.

Five Little Acorns
(tune: Five Little Ducks)

Five little acorns swaying in a tree
Hanging from a branch as high as can be.
Along came the wind and blew one away.
Four little acorns are left to sway.
(three, two, one)

Scarecrow, Scarecrow
(tune: Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear)

Scarecrow, scarecrow turn around
Scarecrow, scarecrow touch the ground
Scarecrow, scarecrow reach up high
Scarecrow, scarecrow touch the sky
Scarecrow, scarecrow , bend down low
Scarecrow, scarecrow, touch your toes.

Fire Safety Song
(tune: Are You Sleeping?)

If your clothes should catch on fire,
Do not run!
Don not run!
Lie down on the ground
And cover up your eyes.
Then roll, roll, roll.
Roll, roll, roll!

Call For Help
(Tune: Wheels on the Bus)

If there is a fire, stay low and go, low and go , low and go.
If there is a fire, stay low and go.
Then call for help!

If there is a fire, get out , stay out, get out stay out, get out stay out,
If there is a fire, get out, stay out!
Then call for help!

If fire gets on you, just stop, drop and roll
Stop, drop and roll, stop, drop and roll
If fire gets on you, just stop, drop and roll
Then call for help!

If there is a fire, call 9-1-1, 9-1-1, 9-1-1,
\if there is a fire, call 9-1-1
And ask for help!
