Today ends our first Trimester of Third Grade. The time has gone so quickly!
I can't believe how much the students have grown just in this short period of
time. I am looking for more great things to come in our next trimester!

On Tuesday this week a note went home regarding conferences. Please take the
time to complete the questions so as to facilitate good use of our very short
time together. I am looking forward to meeting with you to discuss your
student's progress.

This week we were very busy. On Tuesday we met with Mr. Barker and Dr. A (he
came all the way from Indiana just to practice with us!) to learn our songs
for this year's Christmas program. We have beautiful songs and I know you
will enjoy our concert on December 15th. Tuesday we also enjoyed a delicious
hot lunch from Buena Beef. Thank you to the moms who provide desert and come
to assist on these hot lunch days. We learned about the history of Veteran's
Day so that we would know why we had Wednesday off and how we should honor the
brave men and women who serve or have served our country. On Thursday we had
another Learn Not to Burn class with Officer Marsha of the Downers Grove Fire
Department. We learned about important fire safety practices regarding
electricity and plugs. Your students will bring home a checklist next week so
that you can be sure your home is safe from fire hazards of any kind. Then on
Friday we had our Art Awareness class and learned about Salvador Dali. We are
working on creating our own surrealistic pictures. We are a very creative class!

Finally, we have had some fabulous Secret Readers the last two weeks. On
Friday November 6th Mrs. Moran (one of our two room moms) read us a story from
the Judy Moody series about Judy Moody and her moods! In the story we could
definitely see some of ourselves and the things that happen to us in ordinary
3rd grade life. The today Mrs. Pruim (our other room mom) read us a story
called "The Stranger" by Chris Van Allsburg who is also the author of The
Polar Express. Thank you to all those who have spent time reading to us on
Friday afternoons. It is truly the highlight of our week.

Enjoy your weekend!
