WE ARE THE BODY OF CHRIST
SCHOOL THEME 2008-2009
October 5, 2008
Happy Fall!
The weather is cooler and for that we on the third floor are very grateful!
There have been some exciting event in third grade in the last two weeks. I
am working to develop a routine for myself so that this will be updated
weekly. It is my best communication with all 29 of my students and their
families.
The week of September 22nd-26th saw us begin two exciting programs in Third
Grade. The first was our first "Learn Not to Burn" class. We became aware of
how important working smoke detectors are in your home. If you have not
checked your detectors and signed the form, please do so as soon as possible.
The students receive a very nice wrist bracelet and we are working for 100%
participation in the Third Grade. Thank you for your support of this
important program. Our second event was our first Art Awareness class of the
year. We learned about Pablo Picasso. Thank you to Mrs. Rodenbostel and Mrs.
Crowe for teaching us about this great artist whose work is on display in the
great City of Chicago! We created our own mono-chromatic self-portraits which
will be on display in our hallway this week.
This past week we worked hard to prepare for our ITBS tests this coming week.
These tests are designed to assess our students current knowledge. They are
not tests that can be studied for. I have been working to teach the students
test taking skills and the process of eliminating wrong answers as well as
using their time wisely. Thank you to Mrs. Rodenbostel for coordinating the
snacks and drinks for this important week. I am confident that the students
will do well on these tests. For your part, please make sure your child gets
enough rest and has a good breakfast each day.
This coming week you will also see our first Progress Reports. These are new
this year to Third Grade in that you will see your child's average for each
subject as well as a letter grade. I am proud of how hard the students are
working. If you should have any questions on these reports, please do not
hesitate to e-mail me at the e-mail address below.
Finally, the past two weeks we heard from two more of our very special Secret
Readers. They were:
September 26th - Mrs. Harmon - She read us "Diary of A Worm" which
tells the story of the life and times of a worm from the worm's perspective.
She also donated this book to our classroom. We loved the pictures in this
book which were very humorous.
October 3rd - Mr. Beida - Our first dad Secret Reader of the year.
We love to hear from our dads! He read to us the story of Smelly Socks.
Then he had us discuss what it would be like to wear socks for weeks on end!
After that, Mr. Beida read to us a story he wrote about his experience with a
snake. He brought in a personal binder of his stories that he put together in
grade school. It was such a great story and a terrific role model to see how
important writing is. Thank you Mr. Beida for encouraging us to write!
Finally, please check the homework page on this website for updates on
homework and information regarding proper paper heading. Thank you for all
you do for our students and for me!
Have a terrific week!
