Vocab
The 6th grade vocab curriculum this year is very much self-directed. We
will devote 2 weeks to each unit. The class is asked to write out the 20
words 5 times each and to complete the unit work by the Friday of the first
week., at which time it will be corrected together in class with questions
answered at that time. The following Friday is then test day with a
spelling test and a separate vocab test given on the same day.
Religion
There is little nightly homework in religion. At the end of each unit is a
review page which is assigned and expected to be completed by the next day
before the test.
In 7th grade, the children are asked to do a research project on a saint
outlining the saint's life, his mission to Christ, what he/she is the patron
of, and the prayer devoted to that saint. The reports are due on a staggered
basis, usually on the saint's feast day.
In 8th grade, the students do a lengthy research project on a religion of the
world so as to enhance their knowledge about religions other than ours. The
due dates are also staggered on these throughout the year.
In both the 7th and 8th grade research assignments, a bibliography and
citations are required.
For the final grading period, the 8th grade engages in debates (apologetics)
on moral and ethical issues to learn how to defend the Church's position.
