Welcome back to St. Mary's and welcome into the 8th grade, your final year
here. I am sure you have all changed over the summer, some of you will be
taller, some will look "more mature", and some of you will be really, really
happy to be back in English.
I thank Mrs. Drabik and Mrs. Groves for a wonderful homeroom. This will be
a fun year, and it will go by very fast, although right now you don't
think so. Mrs. Kalal and I have worked hard to put together a year that
will have a lot of activities that are just for the 8th grade. We need you
to take an active part, however, and not just hope that the time goes
quickly. 8th grade can be either filled with jocundity (look that word up)
and something that you will remember your whole lives, or it can be
something that you never want to think about again, but the choice is yours.
This year will be what you make it.
As we do every year, we ask you all to watch out for any kind of bullying
between your classmates. We know that you, personally, won't participate in
any bullying of any kind, including talk that is not very nice to each other
either to each other's face, on the phone, or over the internet. Bullying
is very hurtful and stays with the victim for a very long time. You would
not like that to happen to you, so please don't do something to someone
else. Also, if you see some act of bullying going on, stand up for the
victim and to the bully, or, if that is not you, come and let me or any
other middle school teacher know, and we will help.
So, bring your smiles and reactivate your brains and I will see you next
Wednesday. If it is hot, bring water. You know what temperatures in my
room are like. I am really anxious to see you all.
