The 6th grade is now working on our unit on verbs. We will be going over
this material very slowly, taking 2+ days for each lesson so that the
children will learn the material. I am a big fan of understanding and not
of memorization for English grammar. Therefore, we will be on verbs for a
few weeks.
They are well into diagramming and have learned to find the subject, verb,
direct object, and indirect object and diagram same appropriately. They are
also becoming familiar with prepositional phrases and the placement of
adjectives and adverbs. I am very happy with the way they have gotten into
this. They are also quite pleased with themselves - and they should be.
Again, for your information, any 6th grade child is welcome in my room in
the mornings between 7:15 and 7:45 for extra help. There is usually a
little group, and we work on whatever they feel the need. So, if your child
wants to come in, they have to let me know they are coming in case we have a
meeting, and I would not be there.
