                        JANUARY/ FEBRUARY HIGHLIGHTS
                               Happy New Year!
The first graders are beginning the New Year with a new reading activity.
The children will read at least one book a week and write a book report that
will earn them a sticker. My main objective is to encourage the children to
read as much as possible. Book report forms are at school and will be sent
home in the Friday Folder. The report should be returned to school the
following week. The children will also write a book report in the computer
lab.

Numerous activities will keep the first graders busy in the coming
months .Religion curriculum will include study of the Holy Spirit, the
beginnings of the Church, and how God’s love and grace shines through us in
the love and respect we show others. The children will be able to read and
discuss a Bible story with their grandparents during Catholic School Week.

We will cover many interesting math, science, and social studies topics this
quarter. The children will be studying number patterns, money, time,
addition and subtraction facts through 12. We will be discussing our earth,
natural resources, conservation, land, water, weather and sky.
We will keep a moon log as we observe the phases of the moon.
We cannot forget our study of Washington, Lincoln and Martin Luther
King Jr.

February is not complete without Valentines Day! The children should bring
a valentine for every child with the child’s name on the envelope.
Valentine’s Day is especially satisfying for me as I watch the children
carefully open and READ each valentine they receive. I will send a class
list in the Friday folder.
God bless you,
Mrs. Cox
