Discipline Policy Grade 5-8

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the new school year. The departmental teachers would like you to know that we are looking forward to working with you and your child. To allow the school day to run smoothly, we have instituted the following discipline plan, homework policy, and uniform policy. By working together we can ensure that all students reach their potential and are prepared for the future.

Discipline Plan

Classroom Expectations:

The following six T’s form a basis for our expectations of each student.

Tools - Have with you all materials needed for class.

Tasks - Stay on task and follow directions so that everyone can learn.

Talking - Talk at appropriate times: therefore, showing respect for others.

Trying - Do your best work and follow the school-wide procedures.

Time - Use your time to benefit your education.

Touching - Respect others’ physical space and their materials.

Positive Recognition will result from meeting these expectations. Some possibilities are: praise, smiles, rewards (individually and/or as a group), recognition by peers, teacher, and/or principal.......

Consequences:

Normal procedures for behavior not meeting these expectations will revolve around a “check” system.

*This will consist of either a phone call home or a Discipline Note sent home for review and parental signature.

**Consequences To Be Determined by the principal after consultation with the teacher, meeting with the student, and contact with the parent/guardian.

Homework Policy

Not having required assignments and materials will be handled by using the same consequences as stated above for expectations. The first day an assignment is late the student will lose 10 points off the grade. Not turning in the completed assignment the next day will result in a zero with completion of the assignment still required.

Uniform Policy

Students are required to be in uniform every day. This includes tucked in shirts without logos, belts, plain white or navy blue socks without logos and visible above the shoe, and no make-up or dangly earrings. See details in the Parent Handbook. Failure to wear the required items will result in a notice home (1st offense), the student having to call home to get the appropriate item (2nd offense), and the student will not be allowed to participate in the next non-uniform day (3rd offense). Also failure to follow the non-uniform day requirements as established by the Student Council will result in the loss of that privilege for the next month.

It is in your child’s best interest that we work together with regard to his/her education. We will thus keep you informed about your child’s progress in class. We have already discussed this plan with your child. Please review it with him/her before signing and returning the form below.

                                                                                    Thanks for your support,
