Remember to prepare for the January, 2010 Scripps Spelling Bee.
Please bring cardboard for your torso. Many students are already cutting
and coloring their respective torso in the classroom.
The skyscrapers are due the last week in January so your wonderful work
will be displayed at Catholic Schools' Week. Please bring the structures on
Friday, January 29, 2010. The buildings should be 2 feet high. This does NOT
include the height of antennas. The width of your building must be in
porportion to the 2' height. So it shouldn't be wider than 2 ft. Your
cardboard skyscraper must be worked on collaboratively with your team
members. Gather supplies that are available in your homes, basements and
garages. Always get permission from a parent BEFORE using any items. Ask a
parent to please get large boxes from stores to use for your structures.
Please remember what was discussed in class. Be creative and use straws for
antennas, aluminum foil for windows, paper towel or toilet paper center
cardboard cylinders for columns and styrofoam dinner plates can be used for
structures like Marina City Towers. These are just suggestions. I know you
can come up with your own more creative ideas. Your skyscraper must look
like the Chicago skyscraper. Color it correctly. Markers, crayons and even
spray paint can be used. PLEASE USE SPRAY PAINT ONLY WHEN THERE'S AN ADULT
TO SUPERVISE. Your work will be awesome. Good Luck!
