Mrs. Russo Kindergarten
Room 103 November 2009

To begin the month in Religion we studied All Saint’s Day, November 1. We will
be learning about some of our best beloved saints and read about their life
stories. We will continue to review our prayers and how we are to behave and
be respectful when we are in the church. The children will learn they can
trust God when they have fears or worries. We will discuss what brings them
security and feeling safe from these fears in their lives – their families,
friends, neighbors, church, teachers and school. We will be studying about
families. The children will reflect on God’s presence in their lives and in
creation and appreciate the love and security they find in the above mentioned
areas.
Please send 4 empty toilet paper rolls to school by Monday, Nov. 22nd for a
Religion project.

In Math we will complete Chapter 4 which explores the study of patterns. The
children will copy, explore, extend, complete and create their own patterns.
Please continue to review words top, middle, bottom, above, below, after,
between, sort, more, fewer, less, re-sort, as many as, picture graph, real
graph, data. Our new words for Chapter 4 will be circle, pattern, square,
rectangle, triangle, red, blue, green, orange, yellow, purple, black and
brown. The class will sort plastic blocks and bottle caps by color and shapes
to make different pattern groups. We will introduce Chapter 5 which is the
study of printing, counting and identifying the number 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.
Please have your child practice printing numbers 1,2,3,4 and 5 correctly.

In Reading we are starting unit 3. This unit has a theme about transportation.
The words to learn are: the, a, my, that, an, can, go, see, am, I: are the
words your child should be able to spell, identify and read as a sight word.

In Printing we are also learning how to print the same letters that we study
that day in the correct Block printing form. We have completed letters Aa –
Qq. We are practicing the correct way your child should be printing their
first and last name. Please have your child continue to practice these at
home using upper and lower case letters correctly.

Just a reminder:
I have told the class that if we have introduced the lower case letter in
class and that letter is in their name they should be printing it correctly in
the lower case form in their name.
Your child has been tested on his/her phone number and address. Please make
sure your child knows these numbers.

It was a pleasure to see so many of the families outside during our Halloween
parade. The children truly enjoyed the party that was hosted by the `Room
Parents’ on behalf of the students let me THANK YOU for a fun-filled afternoon!

St. Thecla Student Council is having a penny drop contest. The students should
bring in as many pennies as they can. This contest runs until next May, so
your child is asked to bring the pennies in continually until the end. There
will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners for the most money collected with
prizes for the winning classrooms.

I appreciate all the donations that have been sent in so far. Please remember
to send back any of the forms that need to be completed.
The School Office is waiting for all the completed forms to be returned.

Kindergarten has new report cards. Please remember to send back the Signed
Report Card Envelop. You can keep the report card sheet.

Please send your child’s cleaned beach towel back to school to be used for
quiet time. I have decided that I will send them home once a month to be
washed. It will be at the end of each month. I am asking you either wash your
child’s towel or send in another cleaned one.
