Savvy Scholarship Tips

Get Involved - Encourage students to get involved in extracurricular, clubs, and sports because many scholarships take this into account.

Get Experience - Remind students that scholarships factor in work, internship and volunteer experience, so tell students to take part in these activities, too!

Develop Good Relationships- Often students will need letters of recommendations for scholarships, so remind them to build good relationships with teachers, mentors, and counselors.

Look Anywhere and Everywhere- Students can look for outside scholarships in other places aside from scholarship search engines. These places include: large companies and corporations (usually found on their websites), parent's place of employment, and student's place of employment.

Organize Information - Students will need to organize information and documents  in order to apply for scholarships: resume, standardized test scores, transcripts, and financial information. It will be easier if students have this information organized before starting.

Don't Just Apply for Large Scholarships - There are many small scholarships out there! Tell students to look for them and apply. They will add up!

Don't pay for scholarship search engines! All of the information you need to conduct these searches is out there for free. No one can guarantee students will receive any scholarships - if they do it is probably a scam.
