FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
Is it true that Steinmetz athletes have to submit weekly grade checks? Yes, in order to be eligible to play in sporting events, students must submit weekly grade checks with their class teachers' signatures. Students must be passing a minimum of 5 out of their 7 classes in order to be eligible for a given week. Students who do not submit a grade check will be ineligible for the next week's competitions. Where do I find blank grade check forms? Grade check forms are issued by team coaches, but they can also be printed on this web site under "Photos and docs." Students MUST submit a printed grade check form, not a hand made one. What if I am absent on the day grade checks are due? Since grade checks are due on Thursdays and issued on Mondays, players have ample time to submit them. The best plan is to turn them in as early as possible. However, absent students must SEE Ms. Russo, Athletic Director, in her office, on the day after grade checks are due. DO NOT SIMPLY PUT LATE GRADE CHECKS IN HER MAILBOX!! Is there a fee to participate in sports at Steinmetz? Answer #4 (blank) Who do I call if I cannot reach a particular coach? Feel free to call the Athletic Director if there is an emergency and you cannot reach a coach. She can be reached at 312-213-2328 or 773-534-3030 x25218. Does attendance affect my ability to participate on a team? Absolutely. Repeated absences from school can cause an athlete to be removed from a team. Absences cause students to do poorly in class. Remember, our athletes are STUDENTS first, athletes second. Also, it is the school's policy that a player cannot participate in a sporting event or practice if he/she has been absent from school that day. Coach's discretion, is of course, always referred to in such cases. During the summer, how can I find out about fall sports, tryouts & practices? Many of our fall teams practice during the months of July and August. In fact, many of them begin competing before the school year even begins. If you are interested in joining a team, especially if you are an incoming freshman, please contact the athletic director via email. The AD will forward all of your information to the appropriate coach. The Athletic Director, Ms. Russo, can be reached at: Russo3030@yahoo.com |
