Course Description: The students will study the significant persons, events, institutions, and belief systems during the times of the Ancient and Medieval civilizations. They will research, examine, and interpret the major changes that were significant factors in the growth and decline of these past civilizations.
Course Objective: The teacher will assist the students in learning the knowledge and skills of the course, the goals of the College Readiness Standards (CRS), with its’ Educational Planning and Assessment System (EPAS), the aims of the school improvement plan, with its’ focus on reading, writing, teaching and testing strategies.
Prerequisite: completion of the United States History course, senior status
Required Text and Materials: World History: Patterns of Civilization, writing supplies and notebook, school planner
Assignments: study guides, maps, vocabulary, worksheets, and MIMS articles
Homework: reading the textbook and completing each study guide
Grading: A standard grading scale for regular students or an adapted grading scale dependent on the IEP of the students. Categories: Assignments (30%), Homework (10%), Class Participation (30%), and Exams (30%).
Grading Scale: A=90, B=80, C=70, D=60
Assessments: unit examinations, study guides, vocabulary infusion, MIMS, maps, and classroom activities

School Attendance: It is extremely important that students attend class every day and are on time. Bell ringer assignments are given in the first five minutes of each class. If a student is tardy, he/she misses the bell ringer and is graded accordingly. Students who have an excused absence must make up any work missed within one week of return (excluding extended excused abvsence).
Attendance Policy: Chicago Public School System has a policy that “Students who have unexcused absences in 20% of the classes in a particular course during the period for which a unit of credit is earned shall not pass the course and shall receive no credit towards promotion.” The school has decided that 18 unexcused absences will result in a failing grade for that course.

Course Description: The students will study the collective experiences of people living in the major geographical regions of the world. They will research, examine, interpret and learn about the geography, social and historical changes, belief systems, and customs in each of the covered regions. They will be given the opportunity to earn credit for consumer education, which is a prerequisite for graduation.
Course Objective: The teacher will assist the students in learning the knowledge and skills of the social scientist, the goals of the College Readiness Standards (CRS), with its Educational Planning and Assessment System (EPAS), the school improvement plan, with its reading, writing, and testing strategies.
Prerequisite: Regular Level Status
Instructional Materials: World Culture, A Global Mosaic
Student Materials: notebook, school planner, pens and pencils
Assignments: Taking class notes to prepare for tests, completing maps, and worksheets
Homework Policy: Reading the textbook and completing each chapter study guide
Grading System:
- A standard grading scale: A=90%, B=80%, C=70%, and D=60%
- An adapted grading scale dependent on the student’s IEP
- A Point System for class work, homework, tests, and the school’s reading and writing initiatives (vocabulary infusion, MIMS, and assessments)
Summative Assessments: Unit exams, common course assessments, study notes, vocabulary infusion, MIMS, maps, and classroom activities
