Policies

Pencils

You will be writing a lot in your workbook and your music (which is school property) and probably erasing to correct it just as much. Please do not ever use a pen to do this activity. Remember NO PENS!!!!!

No Food, Drink Gum or Candy in the Bandroom / Water Only

Please do not bring any of these items into the bandroom. Water is acceptable, and in fact is helpful when playing a wind instrument. Sugared and other snacks and beverages will leave a sticky film in any of the wind instruments as you blow into them. After a while the instrument will begin to smell terrible and this will in turn shorten the overall lifespan of the instrument. These instruments are loaned to us in good faith by Steinmetz and it is our duty to keep them in as good a condition as we can. Think about it, would you like to be assigned an instrument that had been treated in this way before YOU received it?

Being On Time

"March to Music" will be in full effect this year! The doors to the Bandroom and the Choir side will be locked after the second bell rings and the music stops. After this, only students with tardy passes will be admitted. Please always be on time to optimize the short time we have for daily rehearsal. It will take a few minutes to set yourself up and any lost time will truly affect your band's overall performance. This will also cause you to lose your daily points for the day and repeated offenses can result in a failure for the course. Do everyone a favor and be on time!

Say NO To Go!

We are all adults here and can both hold our bodily functions and properly schedule our meetings with other teachers and staff until the appropriate times. In the "real" world you will not be allowed to leave a rehearsal or performance for any reason at all. This "reality" is reflected in our rehearsals, and only in an absolute emergency should you even bother to ask to go to the bathroom or any other place in the school.(And even then, only with a planner!) If there is a medical condition that exists, you must bring in some sort of documentation or have a parent call to be allowed otherwise. If you have forgotten something for class, you will not be allowed to go get it and will lose your daily points. Please, always be prepared!

Electronic Devices (Cell Phones, iPods, CD Players, etc)

Here is the school's policy: Students may not display them or wear them openly while in school. They may not use them or any of their features (cameras, games, calculator, etc.) at any time while in school.

In the bandroom all phones and music players must be turned off and put away in your bag. These are extremely disruptive to the rehearsal process and make it practically impossible to play an instrument or hear the conductor adequately. The first offense is a verbal warning and a loss of your daily points, but after a second offense I will confiscate the item and a discipline report will be made. A third offense will result in a call will being made to your home and a parent-teacher conference will be scheduled to resolve the problem.

Uniforms

All school policies regarding uniforms will be enforced (Official Steinmetz shirt and black or dark colored pants). Please be in uniform at all times within the building.

ID's

ID's must be worn at all times within the building. Students are reminded that they MUST surrender their ID to any faculty or staff member who request them.

Language

Students should not use or address vulgar, obscene, defamatory, incendiary, or other disrespectful language toward anyone in the building.

Hats, Head Coverings

Students should not wear hats, dew rags, headbands or any other headcovering in the building
