Please review any work that comes home in your child's speech folder. If your child is having difficulty understanding you, slow down your rate of speech and simplify your language. Make sure you have your child's attention before you ask him or her to follow a direction. If your child is having difficulty with expressive language, be an active listener and listen for the content of the message. Then elaborate slightly on what the child said. (i.e., Child, "Juice." Parent: "You want juice.") For problems with articulation, emphasize the sounds your child might be having trouble with (i.e., Child: "Look at the dand!" Parent: "Yes, look at the sssand.") Please see me for more specific exercises for your child. Remember to always be a good speech model!
