Can I bring in a treat to celebrate my child's birthday?
Of course! Your child may bring in a treat for the class. There are 27 students in the class. Please make sure the treat is INDIVIDUALLY PACKAGED! If the treat is not individually packaged, it will be sent home. This is a school-wide policy. In addition, due to peanut allergies, please bring foods that do not contain nuts. Thanks! :) You may also choose to send a non-food treat (i.e. pencils, erasers, etc.). Summer birthdays will be celebrated on a child's half birthday (6 months from birthday) or at the end of the school year (your choice!). Please send in a note the day before you plan to bring the birthday treat. Your child may not visit other classroom teachers to distribute treats. This causes a disruption to the teacher and class. Thank you for your cooperation.Back to Top
Is it ok to distribute birthday party invitations at school?
PLEASE DO NOT SEND BIRTHDAY INVITATIONS TO SCHOOL unless each child in the class is invited to the party. Children's feelings get hurt if this is not strongly enforced. I appreciate your understanding.Back to Top
Will my child be able to order books from a book club?
YES! Scholastic Book Club has great books that are reasonably priced. For each book purchased, the class receives points that I can use to buy books or books on tape for our classroom library. I will send the book order form with a note attached that will give the due date as well as some books that I recommend. These books may be popular books that the kids love or they may coincide with something that they are studying. If you would like to purchase books, you have two options. 1) You may bring the order form and a check made payable to Scholastic Books to school. 2) You can order online! www.scholastic.com/parentordering Our username is Sabados and the password is Wildcat. You can order online 24/7 until the due date. You can pay online and the books will be delivered to school and sent home with your child.Back to Top
How can I help my child with his/her homework?
READ! READ! READ! Practice math facts (addition and subtraction). More helpful information... Guidelines for Helping With Homework So You Don't Work Harder Than Your Child! by Dr. Charles Fay - Set aside a time each day for family learning. Set aside at least 30 minutes, devoted to family brain cell development. During this time, there should be no TV, video games, computer games, etc. Model your own excitement for learning by reading a book, writing letters, etc. Your child may learn by doing their homework, reading about something they love, writing stories, etc. - Help only when your child truly wants it. Some parents make the mistake of forcing help upon their kids. This only creates frustration, anger, and kids who believe they can't learn without their parents' help. - Help only when there's an absence of anger or frustration. When either you or your child gets frustrated or angry, learning becomes associated with frustration and anger. - Help only when your child can describe what the teacher said. This ensures that your child continues to believe that it's important to pay attention to teachers. Unfortunately, some kids learn that it's best to "tune-out" at school and let their parents do all of the teaching at home. - Move away from your child before he/she "gets it." Some children believe they can only learn something, or "get it," when an adult is in the same room or is guiding them every inch of the way. To prevent this dependency, avoid falling into the habit of sitting at the table as your child does their homework, especially when they are on the brink of learning something new. I sent Mrs. Sabados an email. Why hasn't she responded?
I check my email regularly (at least three times per day). Your email may have gone into my spam filter. We have a filter that collects all "unrecognizable" emails and puts them together in a folder. Each day at noon, we receive an email that contains this folder of spam emails. Although I look through them daily, because there are so many, I could have missed yours. If you sent an email and didn't get a response by the next day, please write a note in your child's planner to let me know that you sent me an email. Also, it is often helpful if you type your child's name or my name in the subject line. Once I respond to you, your emails will no longer go into the spam filter. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.Back to Top
