Language Arts
This week we will be starting Lesson 17 in our Storytown textbook. The spelling words this week are lunar, cellar, collar, corner, danger, director, doctor, dollar, tinker, finger, honor, horror, labor, master, motor, ancestor, checkers, power, regular, sugar. The Robust Vocabulary words this week are ancestors, brilliant, exotic, graceful, mischievous, participate. The comprehension strategy we are focusing on this week is Fact and Opinion. The grammar skill we will look at this week is subject and object pronouns.
Writing
We continue to focus on reading short passages and writing extended responses.
Science
We will have a field trip this week to the Shedd Aquarium on Thursday. Lunch will be provided (cheese and ham sandwiches) by the museum, but if you’d like your child to have their own lunch, please send them with one that day in a clearly marked bag. We will attend a class while we are there called “Reef Relationships”, and have time to go to the Wild Reef exhibit as well as some time to explore the rest of the musuem. We will be returning to school at approximately 1:30.
Ecology
Thanks to all of our volunteers who came with Rooms 307 and 308 on our trips to Sauganash Woods. We appreciate it very much!
Social Studies
The African American Scrapbook projects were absolutely outstanding. The students did a great job!
Math
We continue Lesson 7 in our Trailblazers text this week by continuing to explore patterns in multiplication. We are also practicing for the ISAT by reviewing various extended response math word problems.
No School
There will be no school next Monday, February 13th for Lincoln’s Birthday.
