Kindergarten * Mrs. Ramos * 10/26/09
Language Arts: Due to the holiday and the field trip we will not begin a new lesson. We will review what we have learned which include the letters M,S,R,T, N, P, and C. We will also review our high frequency words; I, a, my, the and go. Please extend the letters at home by having your child draw or write something that begins with each letter. Also have your child write or tell you a complete sentence using each of the high frequency words.
Writing: Students have begun Writing Workshop. Each student is asked to recall a specific incident in their life and write/draw about this small moment. Please ask your child about their stories.
Math: We are continuing our lesson on positions/directionality. Please work with your child at home using the following vocabulary; above, below, behind, in front of, right and left.
Science: Our worm compost is coming along nicely. The students continue to feed and look over the worms and then journal their observations. We continue to learn about worms by reading a book we borrowed from the Shedd Aquarium. If you have any books on worms you would like to share please send them to school.
Reading: I will be sending home a reading log every month, please use this to keep track of what is read for the month and return it at the end of the month. Don’t forget to read everyday to your child. Reading has been proven to be a strong component in children learning to read. After reading a story, talk about it; ask a few questions about what happened or what might happen next to the characters from the story.
Recess: We go out for recess or walks around the school everyday unless it is raining. Please dress you child accordingly
Field Trip: Our field trip to the Theatre Building Chicago is this Thursday October 29th.
Spirit Week: Please see last weeks Green Notes regarding activities for the week.
Gym: We have gym class on Tuesdays. In order for children to participate safely, Mr. Kurz asks that all students wear gym shoes which cover the entire foot.
