Animals All Around

Students will read and learn about animals and their homes, animal tales as they listen to and respond to these stories. They will become familiar with a story through repeated readings, they can retell it or dramatize it with more depth and accuracy.

 Math-Crawly Creatures

This month we are working withCrawly Creatures.Students will apply previous skills learned in Science and Math on this unit by exploring the world of insects and bugs.
 The symmetry of bug bodies, counting legs and spots, live samples will be collected for sorting and observation. Keep working with fractions of ½, 1/3, and ¼.

 Children will work on problem solving in addition and subtraction activities.

 Review time of the hour and coins, and introduce half hour and the value of the quarter.

Science 

 Kindergarten students have welcomed a wormcompost bin which was graciously sponsored by our partnership with the Shedd Aquarium.

Students will explore and observe the characteristics of the bugs sent in to our classroom.  

This past week our classroom received five caterpillars. We will be using them to observe their life cycles through various activities. The caterpillars are currently located in a sealed container where they will soon develop into chrysalises. Students will observe the changes in the life cycle of a butterfly.
