You can turn it in to the office or to Ms. Nolan.

Is the teacher available for individual parent/teacher conferences?

Absolutely yes. Contact me to set up an appointment -- it can be either before or after school,
whichever is most convenient for you. You can e-mail me at aaok@sbcglobal.net, leave a message
in the office, or speak to me before or after school.

What is the best way to contact the teacher?

Because I don't have a phone in the room, it is easiest to reach me by e-mail. My personal e-mail is
aaok@sbcglobal.net. You can also leave a message in the office by calling 534-5090 or by leaving a
note in my mailbox.

How do children celebrate their birthday in first grade?

I'm happy to set aside 1/2 hour for an in-class party as long as all food and other supplies are
provided by the family. The best time for parties is at 2:00. If several children have birthdays in the
same month, I ask families to organize a joint party on a middle date.

Should I correct my child's homework?

This is a common concern, and the answer is it depends. If it is a writing assignment and your
child is using nonstandard spelling, you do NOT need to correct it! Students who sound words
out and create their own spelling for words we have not yet studied are doing just what they
should be doing. On the other hand, if the homework is math or vocabulary and you see that
your child is having trouble, you can certainly help him/her to get to the right answer.
(When in doubt, write me a note to let me know your child had trouble with the assignment.)
