What do I need to wear to gym?

Gym shoes and a name shirt are required. The best gym shoes are the ones
that tie. They stay on more securely. Velcro shoes are okay. Its a good idea
to keep an old pair of gym shoes at school. For safety reasons, any student
who does not have the proper shoes must sit out.

Why do I need a name shirt?

The PE teachers are fortunate to get to see all the classes. That's a lot of
kids! We want to get to know you by name, so wearing a shirt with your name
clearly printed on it is very helpful for us.

What are the goals of the PE classes?

Our most important goal is to get you physically fit while having fun. We
will work on improving your strength, flexibility, and endurance through many
types of activities. Another important goal is to teach you activities you
can do for a lifetime. That means activities you can do when you get older too.

What will we do in PE?

We do a lot a different activities, but here is an example of a typical day.
We start out with a few minutes of Fitness Time. This is a time when we
work on improving cardiovascular endurance and muscle strength. Then
we stretch. Stretching increasing flexibility and decreases the chance of us
hurting our muscles during activity. We then move to our main activity of
the day. This can be either a sport skill or a related game we play to
improve our skills. Click on PE Weekly Units to see what we are doing each
week. If we have time we end the class with a quick game and then
Relaxation Time. Relaxation Time gives us a chance to catch our breath, get
our heart rates back to resting rates, and get prepared to go back to the
classrooms and learn!!! That's a lot to fit into 25 minutes, so we keep
moving!

3 means you have exceeded expectations, a 2 means you have met
expectations, and a 1 means you need to improve in that area.

What if I am injured or sick and can't participate?

If you cannot play for any reason we need a note from home. A note from home is good for 3 days. After that a doctor's note is needed. We must get approval from the doctor that it is okay for you to start playing again.
