About The Teacher
Reading: Through reading a variety of materials both in and out of the textbook, reading goals include helping students develop or increase their abilities in the areas of vocabulary, making inferences, improving comprehension and critical thinking, as well as to continue to develop their understanding of the elements of literature and plot. Writing Skills: Grammar, sentence structure, mechanics, punctuation, and writing style are utilized through prewriting, editing, revising, narrative, expository, descriptive and persuasive writings. Class Materials: To be prepared for class every day, students must bring their assignment notebook, pen or pencil, a folder, a notebook for the journal entries, a correcting pen and our current reading material. Grading: LA grades are calculated using a total points system where points are given for class work, homework, quizzes, tests, projects and class participation. Students are taught how to keep track of their own grades and how to check grades online. Goals for All Students: Do the assigned homework, be prepared to learn every day, respect yourself and your classmates, keep an open mind and strive to do your very best.

Mission
We are continuing with our implementation of PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports) this year through our ROAR program. Students are earning ROAR cards every day for just doing the right things. These ROAR cards are valuable items that can be saved to use as cash in our school's ROAR store, can be turned in to school-wide raffle bins for gift cards, t- shirts, movie tickets..., can be turned in to our team raffle bins where 8-10 small prizes are drawn twice a month (and then are dumped into the school- wide bins), or can be traded in periodically throughout the year for prizes. Watch the Team Calendar for these opportunities to pop up! Every Wednesday is ROAR day where students will participate in ROAR reminders, team meetings and fun ROAR activities and raffles.
