This will be my fifth year at Woodland Middle School. Before coming to
Woodland I taught one year at Jerstad Agerholm Middle School in Racine,
Wisconsin. I received both my bachelor and master degrees from Carthage
College. I live in Spring Grove, IL with my wife Shannon and son Caiden. I
am in my second year as a Varsity Assistant Football Coach at Antioch High School.
As a physical education teacher I want to eliminate the thoughts of physical
education as more than just athletics and/or running. My goal is to make
all students aware that physical education is an important piece of the
educational system. Physical education gives each student the opportunity
to learn the value of healthy activities and habits. In addition, it gives
each student an opportunity to learn about the importance of maintaining a
healthy lifestyle through the teaching of various life skills within the
curriculum. Students need to know that success in physical education is
based more on attitude and motivation than actual coordination.
Physical education is the only subject which, by the very nature of its
content, has the potential to affect how a person will feel physically and
emotionally every moment of every day for the rest of his or her life. If I
can help students realize this, then I believe I have done my job as their
teacher.
