About The Teacher
My name is Mrs. Bernick. I want to first welcome you and your child to Woodland Middle School. This is my ninth year here at Woodland Middle School. I am excited to be teaching Language Arts on this wonderful sixth grade Lynx team. While attending Illinois State University, I was part of a special student-teaching program at a professional development school. Instead of student teaching for only a semester, I student taught for the whole year in fourth and eighth grade classrooms. It was a great experience to be in the classroom from the beginning to the end of the school year. I graduated in May of 2002, earning a Bachelor degree in Elementary and Middle School Education with specialties in the areas of Social Studies, Language Arts and Reading. After graduation, I was awarded an internship to work in Walt Disney World for a semester. The experience was incredible! I got to meet so many different people from all over the world. I also graduated from Saint Xavier University in December, 2005 with my Masters Degree in Teaching and Leadership! To further my education, I am continuing to take more courses. This year, we will be working a lot on our writing. This includes extended response, expository, persuasive, and narrative writing. We will also be reading some novels that I think the students will enjoy. We will continuously be working on grammar, spelling, vocabulary and reading comprehension. Organization is the key to success. Your child should be prepared for Language Arts daily with a binder containing tab dividers, a folder, and a spiral notebook. It may be helpful if they are all the same color. Pens, pencils, notebook paper, and a booksock will also be needed. I am looking forward to this school year. I will make sure to keep you updated. It will be a good experience for both your child and me. I hope to meet you very soon! It is extremely important that parents and teachers stay in contact to ensure a child's success. If you need to get in contact with me, please leave a voicemail message at (847) 856-3791 or e-mail me at ybernick@dist50.net. Also, my homework hotline is updated daily and can be reached at (847)856-3479. Throughout the year, I also like to have parent volunteers come in between the hours of 8:00-12:15 to assist with editing and reading. If this interests you, please let me know. Thanks for your cooperation! Sincerely, Mrs. Bernick
