Info for Parents

Welcome to my website! I hope you'll find information here that is valuable
to you. Please feel free to call or email me when you have questions
or just want to chat about your child's progress.

You are surely your child's first and most influential teacher, and your
child's ideas about education and its significance begin with you. Whether
your child is a Freshman beginning high school or a Senior thinking
about applying to college, he or she deserves your attention. Encourage
good study habits and discourage satisfaction with mediocrity. Further,
discourage your child from dropping rigorous classes to take easier classes
where he or she might earn an "easy" grade. Ultimately, the "easier" class
is counterproductive in the overall scheme of your child's education.

Above all, exhibit a commitment to continued learning in your own life.
Help your children understand that excellence in education cannot be
achieved without intellectual and moral integrity coupled with hard work and
commitment. Young people look to their parents and teachers as models for
such virtues.

LINCOLN-WAY'S ONLINE GRADE REPORTING SYSTEM:

As you know, Lincoln-Way has an online grade reporting system. You
should have a password to access your student's grades, and your student
should have his or her own password to see grades. I will make every effort
to keep my students' grades as current as possible so they are meaningful.

Often, though, a writing assignment or an essay type test will take a bit
longer to grade. In this case, I will wait until I have all sections of the
class graded before I post.

Sometimes, too, during the quarter your student's grades may not be a fair
indicator of how he or she is doing in the class. Some students do well on
some assignments and not as well on others. Talk to your student about
progress in the class to see if this is the case. Continue to watch his or
her grades to see if there is a pattern of improvement as the quarter
continues (often there is). Always feel free to email me about your child's
progress, but honest conversation with your child is the best indicator of
how things are going.

This year I will not be sending out progress notices for your students. I
will keep my grades as up to date as I possibly can. This seems a better way
of conveying your child's progress than a report sent in the mail which may
be out of date before it reaches you.
