Gym Clothes and Special Class

Our special class schedule is red-art, white-music, blue-technology, green-gym.  Our first day of school was red day.

Your child will need to bring a set of gym clothes (t-shirt, shorts, socks, and gym shoes) to school.  These clothes can remain at school throughout the year.  Please place them in a Walmart sack or very small duffel bag so that they will easily fit inside of your child’s cubby.  These can remain at school all year (they really don’t get stinky!).  If you do choose to wash or switch out your child’s gym clothes, once a nine weeks is often enough.  We will go to gym every 4 days.

Discipline

Each child will have a pocket in the room with three different colored index cards in it. Each time a student has broken a school, classroom, playground, or bus rule, a card will be pulled from the pocket. The following are the consequences for misbehavior:

1. If the green card is pulled, it is a warning.

2. If the yellow card is pulled, your child will remain inside at recess for 10 minutes to write a note to you explaining the rules that he/she has broken that day.  This note will need to be returned the following day with a parent’s signature so that I know you have received it.

3. If the pink card is pulled, it is an entire lost recess.  (Your child will write a note home to you as well).

When a rule is broken, the offense will be written on the card.

Each day starts off fresh by returning the cards to the pocket.  If your child doesn’t get a card pulled during the day, he/she will receive a “behavior buck” to spend at our classroom store.

Homework

Homework in second grade helps to develop responsibility in our children. Students will be expected to bring home the assignment, complete it with guidance from a parent, and return it to school. Your child will have a short homework assignment each night except Friday.  Your child's homework schedule for the month will be kept inside his/her FROG book.  As a class, we will fill out the homework that needs to be completed that night on the correct square on the calendar.  This will include a Saxon math sheet, practicing spelling words, and reading at home for Book-It.
