ADMISSION PROCEDURE
FOR JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN THROUGH 8TH GRADE
At Forest Ridge Academy we believe in providing an environment in which children will succeed by developing academic skills and a strong sense of self-confidence and esteem. Therefore, we feel that it is important to accept only those students for whom we can make a reasonable prediction of success in our program.
1. Parent Visit: Contact the Admissions Office to arrange an initial campus visit by calling the school at 219-756-7300. We believe it is very important for parents to visit the school during our regular school hours so that they may see the students and teachers in action. It is also an excellent time to assess the climate of the school. For students entering middle school it is imperative that the parents and the prospective student meet with the middle school teachers to discuss the curriculum and their expectations.
2. Application: Send a completed application and the $50 application and testing fee to the Admissions Office. You may contact the school to have an application form mailed to you. The application fee covers the cost of the testing and application procedure. (For grades 1 through 8) Submit a copy of your child’s current report card and standardized achievement test scores.
3. Student Visit and Testing: Upon receiving the above information, the director of admission will contact the family tor the family could all the school to set up a convenient time for the applicant to visit. Students entering Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten are invited to tour their prospective classroom and meet with the Admission Director. During this time the applicant is administered the Missouri Kids Test. This test assesses the students readiness to enter school. The interview and testing process takes approximately one hour.
Students in grades 1 through 8 will be asked to shadow for a full day (8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.). During this time the child will follow a regular school day and will be administered tests in math, reading, English, and be asked to submit a writing sample. The interaction of the child with his/her classmates will also be taken into consideration.
DECISION
After the above steps are completed the Admission Committee meets to make a decision regarding the child’s admission to the school. The test scores, previous school records, the child’s readiness to work at grade level, and the ability of the child to contribute positively to the school community are all taken into consideration for enrollment. Although Forest Ridge Academy accepts and serves students with diverse learning styles, it is unable to serve every learning difference.
