(Kindergarden - Grade 3)
The Forest Ridge Academy Youth Violin Ensemble Master Class is available
beginning on Fridays this fall for children in Kindergarten through Grade 3.
Small group, semi-private classes will be available once a week during lunch
and lunch recess on Fridays, beginning 11:30-12:10. We will eat lunch
together while we work on theory, and then practice with our violins.
Classes meet in 8-week semesters. Classes begin the week of September 21.
Semester I meets the week of September 21-November 19; Semester II meets the
week of November 30-February 5; and Semester III meets the week of February
8 -April 15.
The class is limited to 5 children only. Because of the popularity of this
class, registration will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Once
the class is full, a waiting list will be assembled.
Children will learn proper violin and bow technique, posture, solo
performance and ensemble skills, in addition to music symbols and elements
of music reading and playing - all while being in a fun, small-group
setting. The group not only performs together, but children can work at
their own pace, on individual pieces which are assigned through the class.
Violin rental fees are nominal, and rental is available through a number of
local music shops.
The Youth Violin Ensemble, under the direction of Mrs. Ciastko,
performed at FRA's 2003 Open House, Winter Concert, and in a side-by-side
extravaganza with the Youth Piano Ensemble during our 2004 Broadway
production of Music, Movies, and Magic. We showed off our fiddling talents
with a performance of "Turkey in the Straw" during our annual 2005
Celebration of Fine Arts - "Animal Animations: It's a Zoo Out There!"
Students have performed in a solo recital, and most recently in a 2007 joint
presentation of "Star Wars" with our Piano Ensemble.
