What It's About
The goal of the art department at FRA is to foster an appreciation for all aspects of art including elements, principles, techniques, mediums, interdisciplinary, cultural, art history, art appreciation, and self expression.
Art is done by the individual but always unique. Each student creates their own work with no limits on their imagination. Group collaborations can promote teamwork and even more possibilities. Some works have been made in the past to be auctioned at our annual Gala or to be displayed in the school.
Inspiration for projects can come from anywhere and consist of anything. . .even chocolate! The use of a variety of mediums makes learning and creating fun. Art is a great way to develop fine motor skills and bring out the creativity in all of us.
Here at FRA, the arts are taught through hands-on projects and techniques. A mulititude of materials are used and explored to enhance the creative experience. Traditional standards are introduced and carried throughout the curriculum. Cultural influences are brought in as well as inter-disciplinary themes. Not to mention some good old fashioned "just for fun" stuff too. Art can be anything and is all around us.
Art is a great way to teach self confidence and a good work ethic. The effort one puts into their work is the most important thing they can be taught. You never know what you can do till you try.
Art can sometimes be challenging. . .
. . . and a little messy. . .
. . .but it's also a lot of FUN!
