ACCEPTABLE COMPUTER USE POLICY

5-8TH GRADE STUDENTS

The following is a fairly comprehensive set of regulations that govern the appropriate use of computers at Forest Ridge Academy. While it cannot cover every aspect of computer use, it does address many of the major concerns. It is the attempt of this policy to detail in specifics the general expectation that all members of the Forest Ridge Academy community use their computers and the network in a responsible, ethical, and legal manner.

1. The Internet is to be used for scholarly research and as a means of obtaining information. Students must have a teacher’s permission before accessing the Internet. Students are not to join chats at school.

2. Material obtained through research on the Internet and then used in academic work for FRA is to be properly documented.

3. The use of computer games is strongly discouraged. Games are prohibited while at school.

4. The school strongly recommends that students take great care when loading any software on their laptops.

5. The school recommends that disks not be shared. Shared disks can spread harmful viruses.

6. Students shall observe all copyright laws. The simplest rule to follow is that software that you have not purchased should not be installed on your computer.

7. Computers may not be used to make sound recordings without the consent of all those who are being recorded.

8. Sound must be turned off, except when it is being used as a part of the class.

9. Violations of this policy will be subject to disciplinary action.
