Double Identity by Margaret Peterson Haddix
Reading Level: 5.0 A.R. pts.-8
When Bethany approaches her thirteenth birthday, her parents become
strangely overprotective. Her father barely lets Bethany out of his sight
and one day hustles the family into the car and drives over several state
lines only to leave Bethany with an aunt she never knew existed. Bethany has
no idea what's going on but senses that her parents are in some kind of
trouble. She is also puzzled by the fact that people in her aunt's small
town look at her as if they've seen a ghost.
The plot thickens as a package is sent by her father which contains four
different birth certificates form four different states with four different
last names--and thousands of dollars in cash. When a stranger comes into
town asking questions, Bethany realizes she's not the only one who is
desperate to unravel the mystery of her past.
A suspensful page-turner, Margaret Haddix has written a compelling story
with a twisting plot about a not-so science fiction topic.
