Library News November 5, 2009
During the month of November, books read and activities done in the F.R.A. library classes will have a folktale/fantasy theme. The younger students will listen to some of the not-so-familiar fairy tales, and work on related crafts. Grades two through four will concentrate on folklore and tall tales, including Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill, and Casey Jones. The unit will be culminated with a folktale/fairy tale Bingo game.
November 17th will begin our celebration of National Children's Book Week. To celebrate the wonder of books, we will be having some special activities. Students are presently participating in a poster contest to express their enthusiasm for books and reading. Posters will be judged and one winner from each class will be chosen.
Also, during Book Week, parents will be invited to be a "Friend of the Library" when they may volunteer to be a guest reader during one of the library classes.
Plans are also in the works to have a storyteller to present some tall tales during a gathering.
Toward the end of the week, in honor of Book Week, Dr. Seuss multi-colored ink pens will be given to all the students.
Session 1 of the F.R.A. Readathon ends Thursday, November 19th. All Readathon Sheets are due by 3 p.m. on that Thursday. Students, don't forget to pick up a new Readathon Record Sheet to start reading for Session 2 during the Thanksgiving break!
Our Innisbrook Wrap Fundraiser was a success, earning $1,927 for our school library. Many thanks to all who bought and/or sold items during this sale! The top-selling students will receive a free lunch and a "No Uniform Pass". Monies earned will be used for additional bookshelves. Delivery of the purchases will be before Thanksgiving break.
