Preparing for Kindergarten


Language Arts

·        Print first and last name

·        Practice writing familiar words

·        Review letter names and sounds

·        Review previous sight words

·        Work on left to right progression

·        Read often

 

Math

·        Identify and draw shapes

·        Count to one hundred by ones, fives, and tens

·        Recognize numbers to thirty

·        Write numbers to thirty

·        Sort groups of objects

 

* These activities can be done with a variety of materials and in a variety of places.  For example, when you take a walk, try counting the number of trees and flowers that you may see.

 

Fine Motor Skills

·        Proper pencil grip

·        Using glue, crayons, and scissors

 

* Have your child do a variety of activities using the above materials in order for him/her to become comfortable and confident in using them.
