Writing Program 5th Grade The Simple 6: A Writing Rubric for Kids is designed to ensure that students understand the assessment process. This simple analytic rubric speaks directly to the qualities a piece must have to be considered exemplary. We will teach each step to the students by using various exercises. The students will then be able to analyze their own writing by using the following rubric: Yes = 1 point No = 0 points ______ Did you stick to the topic, or did you run away with some other idea? ______ Have you presented your thoughts in a logical order that includes an inviting beginning and strong conclusion? ______ Have you overused generic vocabulary, or have gone back to look for opportunities to use interesting words. ______ Did you use different sentence patterns, or does your story sound like a list? ______ Does each paragraph have a topic sentence and supporting detail sentences that are descriptive. ______ Did you write for an audience? (original, lively, or another unique perspective appropriate for the prompt) ______ TOTAL POINTS (How many did you answer yes?) Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have regarding this new writing program. I am looking forward to the studnets’ development as writers this year.
