Hi! Welcome to our class site! I hope you will find it useful. As

*For any parent who has ever worried about their child's performance in
school, who has a child with a learning disability or behavior
issues...please visit this site. Teachers, visit this site to remind you
that all kids are special and CAN learn...we just have to find the way.
Click on the gingerbread people to brighten your day!
We are going to have so much fun in the weeks
before Christmas! We are making gingerbread houses this week. Randy Maxwell,
from Maxwell Construction, will come in on Thursday and talk with the class
about the building industry. He will also help the kids make a special
surprise building out of gingerbread! We can't wait to find out what it is!
Parents, if you would like to come in and help your
child build a gingerbread house, please let me know. We are very flexible and
will work around your schedule. We hope to see you!
Next week we will be making gingerbread
people cookies. They have always run away in the past but hopefully we can
keep them on the tray this year!
We will also be having our Polar Express party Thursday, December 17th.
Parents are invited to wear their pajamas and join us for a magical ride. We
will have hot chocolate, marshmallows, and popcorn. Please talk to your
children about the special meaning of Christmas and your family traditions.
Good news! I received a grant from the Greater
Cincinnati Foundation Learning Links to establish the Everybody Counts
program at our school! I am so excited to introduce this program to the kids
at North Dearborn. If you haven't heard about it, it is a program that
actually lets kids experience disabilities for a day. Every grade level will
experience a different disability. This program promotes acceptance and
empathy from young children. It involves teachers, parents, and community
members. If any of you are already doing this program at your school, please
email me and give me some details of how it works at your school. I have
found some great resources online but would still like to hear about it first
hand.
Parents,
Please remind your children to WASH, WASH, WASH their hands with soap and
water! We are doing all we can to prevent illness here at school. PLEASE do
not send your child to school with a fever. Your child MUST be fever free
for 24 hours WITHOUT the use of medicine before returning to school. This is
for your child's safety as well as the safety of every person your child
comes in contact with. Thanks so much for your help!
Don't forget to have your child complete one of
the activities to the left and email it to me for a prize!
We will be Bucketfilling in our classroom.
There is a wonderful book titled Have You Filled A Bucket Today by Carol
McCloud and Illustrated by David Messing. The book tells children about an
invisible bucket that every person carries around with them all day, every
day.The purpose of your bucket is to hold your good thoughts and feelings
about yourself. You feel good when your bucket is full and sad when it is
empty. The children learn that you can fill a bucket when you show love to
someone, do something kind, or even when you smile. By doing these nice
things for others, you are also filling your own bucket because you feel good
when you help others feel good. The book also talks about Bucket Dippers who
make others feel bad. We don't want to be Bucket Dippers! Our counselor,
Mrs. Hons, will come in each week and help us learn to make good choices so
that we can fill our own bucket as well as those around us.
If you are looking for a great book to use at home or in the classroom, I
can't say enough good things about this one! There is a website dedicated to
Bucket Filling that offers a monthly newsletter for teachers and parents.
Check it out!
A little about Mrs. Dennis:
I am excited to be earning my Gifted and Talented license this year from
Ball State University. I have a Master's degree in Mild/Moderate
Disabilities so these classes will help me to see the other end of the
learning spectrum. I earned my National Board Certification in Early/Middle
Literacy:Reading and Language Arts in November 2007. WOOHOO!
