Mrs. Dill's Second Grade |
Tyrone's On Line JournalTyrone's On line Travel Journal
July 4, 2008Mrs. Dill took me with her family on vacation this summer. We traveled from Indiana to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Whew! That was a long car ride. After a good nights sleep we enjoyed an original Philly Steak and Cheese sandwich, downtown Philadelphia, at Genos.
After a great lunch, we trekked over to take a look at the Liberty Bell. A long time ago the Liberty Bell rang out from the tower of Independence Hall summoning the citizens of Philadelphia to hear the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence.
Wow! Independence Hall sounds like an important place too. You can actually see it behind Mrs. Dill and I as we look at the Liberty Bell. We decided to go check it out. Actually, so did about an hours worth of other people. We chose not to stand in line to go inside, rather we just took a nice long look at this historical place where the Declaration of Independence was adopted. It was here too, that the Constitution of the United States was debated, drafted and signed. Continuing on our patriotic quest, Mrs. Dill and I dropped by for a visit at the home of Betsy Ross. After touring the home of the woman who created the first American flag, Tyrone paid his respects to her grave. Philadelphia was a wonderful place to be on our Nation's birthday. However, I was exhausted from riding in Mrs. Dill's backpack all day. We decided to call it a night. July 6, 2008After a day of traveling and getting settled into our new place, we ventured out to explore the Nation's capitol ... Washington D.C. . We took a solemn tour through Arlington National Cemetery and visited the home of General Robert E. Lee.
Mrs. Dill and I watched the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier . I am at a loss of words to describe this hallow event. It was truly touching - even for a small tiger.
Seeing the tomb of the Space Shuttle Columbia crew concluded our travels through Arlington National Cemetery.
going to spend the school year traveling around our AMAZING AMERICA! I am one lucky tiger. Keep checking our website for my journal updates. I will be busy traveling and meeting new people. Mrs. Dill is going to keep my journal on line so you can continue to follow my adventures.
Today was my last day at Northwestern Elementary School. I have enjoyed Second Grade and made many wonderful friends. Mr. Owings, Principal of NES, even introduced me to their Northwestern Tiger mascot. Mrs. Dill and her class gave me a big send off. I am on my way to Desert Valley Christian School in Tucson, Arizona.
It is Friday morning, and I have arrived at Desert Valley Christian School in Tucson, Arizona.
The students at Desert Valley are in the process of writing my journal. I must tell you that I did some traveling around Tucson. Arizona is a beautiful state! I had a wonderful view of the classroom as I sat next to the classroom aquarium.
WHEW! After a long, cross country trip, I finally arrived in Maryland. I was greeted at St. Michael School with lots of smiling faces and many hugs. Soon after I arrived we went to gym class. Exercise was just what I needed. Mrs. Grauer allowed me to sit at her desk while the children were working. During snack time my new friends fed me imaginary bananas and cookies. I will be posting pictures soon, of my wonderful trip to Maryland. Now I am off to Kansas!
What an amazing journey. I have arrived at Manchester Park Elementary School in Lenexa, Kansas. The children knew I needed some fresh air, so they took me outside to play on their beautiful playground. It is a little lonely in my box, as I am traveling from state to state, so a few of Mrs. Peterson's children read me a story. After relaxing with a good book, the children at Manchester Park showed me around their room. I visited their computer, worked at learning centers, and even played a game. As much as I love my human friends, I must say that I loved meeting "one of my own kind" .... stuffed and fluffy. My new friend, Stormy. I have had a fantastic trip to Manchester Park Elementary School. I will be saying goodbye soon. My next destination is Anne E. Moncure Elementary School in Stafford, Virginia.
I have arrived in Stafford, Virginia. Mrs. Hincks and her 4th grade students have given me a warm welcome. Today I learned how to write. I learned about workshop rules. I took a nap during lunch. In the afternoon I learned about V.A. regions. I made a map that had Coastal Plain, Piedmont, Blue Ridge Mountains, Valley and Ridge, and Appalachian Plateau.
What an exciting day! After helping Mrs. Hincks' class study for their math quiz, I got to meet their school mascot! He was fluffy, just like me.
Today I was busy with math stations. I learned about multi-digit addition and subtraction I also took a social studies test about the three language groups in Virginia. I had no idea there were three language groups in Virginia! Did you??
I learned why England wanted to start a colony in Virginia -- so they could be rich, rich, rich! Today is my last day in Virginia. I have enjoyed my time with the 4th graders at Moncure Elementary School. I am on my way to Grove City, Pennsylvania! ![]() ![]()
12-5-08"Wow! I had a wonderful trip to Adams Center New York! I visited Mrs. Clemons' third grade class. I did math on the Smartboard which was really cool. I went to gym, and music. I watched the students play hockey and practice for their music concert. I helped set up the class Christmas tree, and while I visited, it snowed 2 feet!! I got to see them do math, count money, read, study Africa, work on a writing project, eat lunch, and I had a long nap. I also met "Stripe", Luke's tiger! I was in pictures with the students and I had fun in Mrs. Clemons' class!" Mrs. McLaughlin came into check on me on Wednesday after she heard that two other teachers came into the building to pack up all the toys for Toys for Tots and sent them on their way not knowing that I was just a visitor and not one of the toys the students brought in. She got quite a scare when she flicked on the classroom lights and saw nothing under the Christmas tree. She didn’t realize that I was hiding behind the tree. Boy, was she ever relieved when she finally saw me! It turned out to be a pretty good day. I got a ride on a snow plow that was clearing the school property after an early morning snow storm, and I got my picture taken with Mrs. Bellemare,, the principal of Thorntons Ferry School (on right) and Mrs. Putney, the Assistant Prinicipal (on left). That’s Buddy the Thorntons Ferry Mascot in the middle. Hello!! Where is everyone? Good news!! The phone call just came in that there is school tomorrow. I can’t wait to see all of the kids again. We will send more pictures now that things are getting back to normal. Here are a few pictures from the ice storm. The class decided to write stories about their adventures and bind them into a book for me to take along on my journey so other students could read them along my journey. Here I am waiting with the last bus group of students before they left for the day. Here is a picture of me with Mrs. McLaughlin’s class on my last day at Thorntons Ferry Elementary School. Everyone patted me on the head to say good bye and wish me good luck before they left for the holiday break. Mrs. McLaughlin took me home for the holidays. It’s Christmas Eve. What’s this, milk and cookies? Yum! I’m hungry. It was really nice of Mrs. McLaughlin to leave this snack out for me. Happy Holidays from New Hampshire. We wish everyone a Happy New Year!!!! I wonder what kind of adventures await me in New York? We, the children in Mrs. Voight’s fourth grade class, live in This is Molly. She is part of our healthy eating program. We give her stars as we count on our way to eating 100,000 stars. We have one star foods (unhealthy foods), three star food (decently healthy), and five star foods (healthy foods.) Tyrone, of course, ate his fair share of stars! Tyrone made a new friend, We are standing by This is our class in front of our Healthy Steppers Bulletin Board. We run around our back field and count how many miles we run during recess. We made these small shoes with our names on them and place them under the category for how many miles we run. Tyrone tried out the Healthy Steppers. He was really fast and beat out the entire class! In Phys. Ed., our teachers like to do different activities. One activity we do is yoga. Here is Tyrone leading our class in the cat pose…….how purrrfect!!! Hola! In third, fourth, and fifth grade in Here, Tyrone is taking the ELA state test. He is very clever. In our state the ELA tests how well we can read, write, and listen. We had three parts of the test. The first part was multiple choice, the second part was a listening lesson, and in the third part we had to combine two stories. Tyrone aced the test. |
