Process

Are you ready to make sure Miss Kolodzinski is eating healthy? Soon you will 
begin your investigation, so get excited and follow the directions below to 
be sure you are successful!

Step #1: Gather in your groups of 4.

Step #2: Read the different roles together as a group.

1) Grains Specialist: This person will become an expert on the grains food 
group. They will investigate what kinds of foods fit into the grains group, 
why we need the grains group, and how it fits into the food guide pyramid!

2) Meat Specialist: This person will become an expert on the meats food 
group. They will investigate what kinds of foods fit into the meats group, 
why we need the meats group, and how it fits into the food guide pyramid!

3) Dairy Specialist: This person will become an expert on the dairy food 
group. They will investigate what kinds of foods fit into the dairy group, 
why we need the dairy group, and how it fits into the food guide pyramid!

4) Fruits & Vegetables Specialist: This person has a special job because 
they will be learning about 2 kinds of foods. This person will become an 
expert on the vegetables and fruits food groups. They will investigate what 
kinds of foods fit into the groups, why we need the fruits and vegetable 
groups, and how it fits into the food guide pyramid!

Step #3: Everyone must choose a DIFFERENT role to be an expert on. Be sure 
to use the life skill of “flexibility” when deciding.

Step #4: After you have decided what your role will be, click on your area 
of specialty and follow the directions.

Step #5: Once you are done, you will draw a food guide pyramid as a group, 
and mark the specific food groups on it.

Step #6: Now your group will create a meal for Miss Kolodzinski's making 
sure it is nutritious and uses all of the four food groups well!

Step #7: As a group write a list of all the foods and drinks you will serve 
Miss Kolodzinski when she comes to visit.

Step #8: As a group gather the amount of paper plates, bowls, utensils, and 
cups that you would need to serve the meal. 

Step #9: As a group draw the items of food on contruction paper, color them, 
cut them out, and glue them onto the serving item that you would serve them 
on.

Step #10: Paste your list of foods in your meal in the class cookbook, which 
will be on Miss Kolodzinski's desk.
