My husband Dan and I have two daughters, Lizzie (14 and in 9th grade at
Shawnee Mission East High School), and Kate (12 and in 7th grade at Mission
Valley Middle School). I earned a B.A. in English and psychology at the
University of Kansas and an M.A. in journalism at the University of Iowa. I
spent 15 years working as a journalist. The last 8 of those years I spent
freelance writing so I could stay home with my children. I went back to
school - this time to Saint Mary College (which is now known as the
University of Saint Mary) - to earn a second B.A., this one in education.
I enjoy teaching English and Literature to sixth-graders. I especially like
seeing them when they are working on a project (usually writing) that allows
them to be as creative as possible. They really seem to like the process of
using their imaginations to create original ideas.
I would like to see the students continue to discover their own creativity.
I also would like to see them thrive in a classroom and school that supports
them in their Christian values.
