Homework 8th Comm

Homework assignments will provide continued practice on concepts 
developed in class work.  Students will be asked to complete and polish 
responses to literature.  Daily assignments, independent reading, a reading 
log, and some longer term projects can be expected.

11/24/09  No new homework.  Come ready to work 11/30!!  Happy Thanksgiving!!

11/23/09  You must write a minimum of two paragraphs to compare and contrast
          "The Pearl" and "The Christmas Carol" - due 11/24.

11/20/09  No homework.  Have a great weekend!!

11/19/09  Do questions on Stave IV and Stave V of Christmas Carol(11/20).  
          Come prepared to attend the Christmas Carol performance 11/20.

11/18/09  1)  Read the remainder of Stave IV and Stave V for tomorrow.

           Pearl due 11/3  - you must include chapters 5 and 6  - you must
           include the words "climax" and "resolution" with identified events

10/29/09   1)  Finish reading chapter 5, The Pearl  2)  Write an 8 sentence
           summary of chapter 5 of The Pearl  3)  Test on vocabulary for
           chapters 1, 2, 3, 4 of the Pearl has been delayed until 10/30.

10/28/09   1)  Sign progress report   2)  Take home test - Chapter 4 - Pearl
            - write answers on notebook paper, choose any 7  3)  Test over

10/27/09  1)Reading log entry due 10/28 - USE YOUR LITERATURE CIRCLE BOOK
          2)  Finish reading from chapter 3 and 4 of the Pearl.  Complete 
          worksheets for chapter 3 and chapter 4 if you have not turned them
          in yet

10/26/09   1)  Finish reading chapter 4 of The Pearl  2) Do worksheet #12-
           answer the 10 questions on vocabulary and write answers to the
           five comprehension questions on notebook paper.  3)  Reading
           log entry is due 10/28.  Write the entry on your literature
           circle book unless you have written 2 entries on the literature
           circle book 

10/22/09  Finish reading chapter 3 of The Pearl.  Finish answering questions
          1-11 that we started in class.  Complete this work for 10/26.
          Reading log entry was due 10/22 on your literature circle book.  Use
          the "story map" graphic organizer.

10/21/09  Do work as assigned by Mrs. Nigro.

10/2/09  I will be out of the building today.  Continue your assignments as
         given by Mrs. Nigro and as written here for 10/1.

10/1/09  1)  Be ready to present your group research project 10/2.  If there 
         is not enough time to present for each group...presentations will 
         continue on 10/5.  You will turn in your notes or paperwork when
         you present  2)  Read your "classic"  book - you have a reading
         log due 10/7.  You will need 60 minutes of reading and a full 
         entry in your log.

9/30/09  1) All assignments related to, "Reflections from the Civil War"
         and "The Bet" must be turned in by 10/1/09.  Begin reading the
         "classic" we checked out at the Cure' Library on 9/28.  You will
         have a reading log entry due 10/7/09.  This requires 60 minutes
         of reading and a completed entry as explained in your log.

9/29/09  1) Story map (The Bet) and author notes from page 251 will be
         picked up 9/30.  2)  Your research project you started in class
         today will be due 10/1, Thursday.  We will begin group presentations
         at that time. 

9/28/09   1)  Complete the story map for "The Bet", pages 242-250 in your
          literature book.  2)  Complete author notes from the facts on
          page 251, Anton Chekhov.  Use the 4 topics:  personal life/family;
          career/education; important works; and important facts

9/24/09   1)  Page 249, questions # 1 -6 should be completed in class today.
          Questions 1-6 are homework and will be picked up in your homeroom
          tomorrow, 9/25 if not turned in today.

9/23/09   1)  Read pages 240 - 249 in your literature book ("The Bet")
          2)  On notebook paper, write two causes and two effects from
          the story  3) Complete your reading log entry if you did not
          turn it in today - get parent signature

9/22/09   Reading log entry due 9/23- get parent signature.  Complete any
          missing work.  Do page 251, words to know (parts A & B)-use 5 or
          more words in Part B.

9/21/09   Final draft of your Civil War persuasive poster due 9/22.  Reading
          log entry on your choice of 3 selections as explained on 9/17
          will be due 9/23...get parent signature.  Complete any missing
          work.

9/18/09   Final draft of your Civil War persuasive poster will be due 9/22.
          Reading log entry on your choice of 3 selections as explained 
          on 9/17 will be due 9/23.

9/17/09   1) Rough draft (on notebook paper) of your Civil War persuasive
          poster   2)  Bring jump drive and research for author card 
          completion on 9/18   3)  You will have a reading log entry due
          on 9/23/09.  You may choose from either of three selections:
          "The Treasure of Lemon Brown", "The Lie", "Reflections on the 
          Civil War" for your entry.

9/16/09   1)  Do "Pop Quiz" worksheet qeustions 1-6 and vocabulary 1-10.  
          2)  Write a letter to someone at home as if you were a civil war
          soldier.  Include details about what you ate, injuries or diseases,
          what you looked like, what activities you participated in.
          3)  bring author research for your author card 9/18

9/15/09   1)  Prepare author research for computer lab 9/178  2)  Complete
          reading pages 46 - 53 3)  Complete notes on the 5 topics you
          wrote in your reading log

9/14/09  1) Take home essay questions # 1 - 3.  2)  Continue author research
         prepare to complete author card 9/18.    

9/11/09  Author card will be due at the end of computer class on 9/18.
         You will have a test over "The Lie" on 9/14.

9/10/09  Complete author card begun in computer lab today by 9/18.  Continue
         gathering information for the facts section.

9/9/09   1) Page 42 in your literature book,  WTK, Parts A & B
         2)  Page 42, take author notes...must be organized as explained
         3)  Test "The Lie" - Vocabulary included on 9/10
         4)  Choose author for computer activity on 9/10

9/8/09   1)  Sign progress report and return all items to school 9/9.
         2)  Finish reading "The Lie", pages 30 - 40 in your literature
         book    3)  Answer questions #1-12 on your worksheet.- due 9/9.

9/4/09  No new homework.

9/3/09   1)  Define/explain the term "anti-establishment" using a dictionary
         or the internet - 3 to 4 sentences 2)  interview a parent with the 
         same question - write their response in 3 - 4 sentences and
         3)  list , in order of importance, 10 parent "expectations" your
         parents have for you.

9/2/09  1) Complete all work detailed for 9/1/09 (conflict worksheet, 
        author notes and words to know from page 28, prepare for test 
        on "The Treasure of Lemon Brown).  Do worksheet 10, parts A & B.
        MAKE SURE YOU WRITE "EIGHTH GRADE" PARAGRAPHS...8 sentences per
        paragraph.

9/1/09   Read or reread pages 17-27 of your literature book.  1) complete
         the conflict worksheet, 2) P. 28, Words to Know, 3) P. 28, Author 
         notes, 4)  Test on "Lemon Brown" 9/2.

8/31/09   Read pages 17-27 of your literature book.  The story title is "The
          Treasure of Lemon Brown."

8/28/09  No new homework.  

8/27/09   READ or REREAD "The Long Closet".  Revise and IMPROVE the front and 
back of the worksheet you were given.  

8/26/09  Finish reading "The Long Closet".  Complete the front and back of 
the worksheet you were given.

8/25/09   Finish reading pages 6 - 11 in your literature book.  Complete the 
story map we began in class.

8/24/09  Cover your book.  Complete the reading survey you were given in 
class.  Use DETAIL in your answers.
