Interactive Notebook information.
The Interactive Notebook is a tool that I use for obtaining and displaying
information that we have covered in the book. We do various types of
assignments within this medium. The Notebook is designed to help those
students who do not take tests well, and it caters to the different
intelligences. The requirements of the Notebook are not
difficult, and many students enjoy doing the assignments that are required.
I will collect the Notebooks twice a quarter. Each time I collect them, the
students have the opportunity to include extra credit. The extra credit can
be in the form of a related magazine article, pictures(hand-drawn or computer-
generated), cartoons, original drawings,or reference sources. Each extra
credit must relate to the discussions, reading, and activities we are
completing in class at the time. It must be accompanied by a written summary
that thoroughly explains how it is connected to the learning in class. The
maximum number of extra credit you can do are 3 and the maximum amount of
points that you can receive is 30 points. In order to obtain extra credit,
all of the assigned pieces for the grading period must be included. Please
note that this is the only place that extra credit is offered in my class.
Eighth Grade Social Studies – Mrs. Walters – Room 203
The basis of the eighth grade social studies class is the history
of the United States from 1877 to the present. The eighth grade will be
using the We the People book for much of the first quarter. This book is part
of an ongoing program to increase awareness in young students about the
Constitution and also about their eventual participation in our government as
potential voters. I feel that this is a very worthwhile program, and that the
students will benefit highly from it. On completion of this program, we will
resume studying from our Call to Freedom book. We will start with the
Reconstruction Era and continue to at least WWII. Tests are usually given
after each chapter, and there are approximately four per quarter. Weekly
Channel 1 tests are open-note tests that are given on Fridays during class.
These tests are entered into my social studies grades and are counted as a
homework grade. The Interactive Notebook, is the only area in which I extend
extra credit. It is fairly easy to attain and 60 extra points can be acquired
through this medium. An explanation of the extra credit is on my website
under the announcement icon.

Seventh Grade social studies – Mrs. Walters – Room 203
The focus of the seventh grade social studies is the history of the
United States. This is a very broad topic that includes geography, some
economics, using analytical skills, and studying current events. We begin
with the early explorers and some history of the world, and ,through
sequence, we end with the Civil War. I give tests after each chapter which
amounts to about four tests per quarter.A study guide is always given before
a test. We have weekly Channel 1 quizzes which are open-note tests. These
tests go into my social studies grade as a homework assignment. The
Interactive Notebook is the only area in which extra credit can be earned. It
is easily attained, and the information for the procedure has been given to
the students. It also appears on my website under the announcement icon. My
plan time is from 9:51 to 10:38. This would be the best time to reach me on
the phone. I check my email daily, and that is a great way to communicate
with me.
