It is very important to the success of the Study Skills class that you review your child's work in the evening and sign his/her assignment book to let me know that the work is completed. It is our daily form of communication and important to the process. Homework Lesson Plans: 1. Be sure your kids get a good night's sleep 2. Schedule a specific time each day that is just for homework--nothing else. 3. Keep all homework materials well-organized and accessible so time is not wasted looking for them 4. Communicate expectations and priorities clearly and specifically. Then stick to them. If homework is to be finished before the TV goes on, enforce this policy consistently. If some TV or play is allowed before homework, allot a set amount of time for these and abide by this guideline. 5. Identify a specific location that works best for your kids to do homework. It should be quiet, well-lighted and comfortable, with appropriate work surfaces. 6. Minimize distractions. Lots of kids will insist that background music, or the TV, helps them study. Unlikely! Learning to clear and focus one's mind without excessive stimulation is an important study skill. 7. Set a good example. When your child sits down to do his/her homework, turn off the Tv and get out a book or magazine of your own to read.
