8th English

12/16/09--Students need to turn in final copy of 1-3-1 essay of person, 
notecards on the person and the rough draft that was due this past Monday, 
12/14/09.  in addition, students will be tested over Unit 12 adjectives and 
adverbs tomorrow in class.  Have a great evening--The semester is almost 
completed.  All of you can achieve--believe you can do it.  Ms. K

12/15/09--Students are to complete exc 12 #1-20 pg 468, exc 14 #1-20 pg 470, 
exc 16 #1-20 pg 472--due tomorrow.  In addition, test over vocabulary units 
13 and 14 is tomorrow

12/11/09--Students are to complete exc 8 #1-20 pg 464, exc 10 #1-20 pg 466.  
I will be checking all spiral notebooks on Monday for complete, thorough 
notes of Units 11/12.  Students can accomplish this-oen step at a time.  Keep

12/9/09--All students are to complete Unit 14 vocab--We will be checking this 
in class on Monday, 12/14/09.  The test for Unit 13/14 will be Wednesday, 
12/16/09.

12/9/09--Students are to read biography on person and take notes on note

12/7/09--Students are to have Unit 13 vocab completed as we will be checking 
it in class.  Students shop

12/4/09--Students need to find biography of person they are 
researching/reading.  Students should be reading and they should formulate 
primary question as outlined in essay rubrci--this is due Monday, 12/7/09. 
Unit 13 vocabulary will be checked on Tuesday, December 8, 2009.  Test over 
Unit 11 pronouns will be on Wednesday 12/9/09. 

12/3/09--All students were given a handout on reading a biography on a person 
who has impacted the world and writing a 1-3-1 essay on this person.  The 
sutdent may look at the list that I have provided and choose from that list.  
We will be in the computer lab tomorrow--reseraching information on this 
historical figure.  Students will need note cards for this essday and reading 
assignment.  The primary question for the biography essay is due on Monday, 
December 7, 2009.  The final copy typed, double-spaced jusdtified copy is due 
on Thursday December 17, 2009.  Students do need to take note cards on this 
person-please see hand out for details.  The 1-3-1 essay will be two test 
grades as students have been working on the writing process the entire 
semester.  Source cards and rough draft are considereid a quiz grade as it 
fall under the categotry of notetaking


12/3/09--All students need to complete exc 11 #1-20, pg 446, exc 13 #1-20 pg 
448--this will be due on Monday, 12/7/09.

12/1/09--Test over Unit 11 will be next Wendesday 12/9/09

12/1/09--Hopur 1 & 2 stusdents are to complete exc 5 (1-20) pg 440, exc 6 (5-
10), exc 7 (1-20) pg 442, and exc 9 (1-20) pg 444.  Vocabulary Unit 12 will 
be checked tomorrow, and the test over 11 and 12 will be on Thursday.  Please 
check 11/24/ assignments for vocabulary.

12/1/09--Hour 4 students are to complete exc 5 #11-20 pg 440, exc 7 #11-20 pg 
442 and exc9 #1-20 pg 444.  Vocabulary will be checked tomorrow and the test 
over 11 and 12 will be on Thrusday.

11/30/09--All students are to complete exc 1 and exc 2 on page 450 according 
to directions.  In addition, students are to create a character web on 
themselves--students should include 20 attributes--10 that are nouns and 10 
that are adjectives--We did something similar to this in class with Monsignor 
Charles as the person 

11/24/09--VOCABULARY FOR ALL--follow this tentative schedule for vocabulary.  
Unit 12 will be checked on Wednesday 12/2/09.  The test for Unit 11/12 will 
be on Thursday 12/3/09.  Unit 13 vocabulary will be checked on 12/8/09.  Unit 
14 Vocabulary will be checked on 12/14/09.  Unit 13/14 test will be given on 
12/15/09.

11/24/09---Students should complete the outlining of Unit 11.3-7.  we began 
outlining prior to chapter 20.  After Thanksgiving we will be picking up the 
pace to complete Units 11, 12, 13 prior to the Christmas break.

11/23/09---As stated on the internet 11/16/09 and all last week--students 
will be tested over Unit 20 punctuation tomorrow 11/24/09

11/17/09--Hours 1 & 2 are to complete the following excercises:  pg 610 exc 
10 #6-10, pg 612 exc 11 #6-25, exc 12 #11-20, pg 614 exc 13 #6-15, exc 14 #1-
10--vocab will be checked on Thursday

11/17/09---Hour 4 is to complete the following exercises:  pg 610 exc 9 all,

11/16/09--We will have a test on Unit 20 commas, semicolons, colons, italics 
etc on Tuesday November 24, 2009--Again all missing assignments need to be 
turned in or it is a zero.

11/16/09--All students should be outlining 20.7, and 20.8. When outlining, be 
sure to include the examples for each rule as well.   Hour 1 is to complete 
pg 606 exc 5 #8-13, exc 6--as instructed in class.  Please write out exc 6 as 
a letter.  Exc 7 pg 608 #13-20, exc 8--as instructed in class.  Please write 
out exc 8 as a letter including your home address.  

11/13/09-All students--please check your grades online for any missing or 
outstanding assignments.  Midterms are now.  I will not be collecting missing 
assignments past 11/16/09.  If you have questions, please see me before or 
after school.  Thank you.  Many of you may simply need to print an assignment 
in the computer lab.  

11/13/09--Students are invited to attend The Journey that Saved Curious 
George at the Jewish Community Center on Sunday 11/15/09 from 12:00-2:00 
P.M.  Docent-led tours will begin at 12;)) and 1:00 P.M> respectively.  
Students will receive extra credit for attending this event.  I encourage 
students interested in art, writing or history to attend this exhibit.  The 
exhibit is being opened up this Sunday for Cure of Ars Middle School

11/12/09--Students worked in computer lab on Ch 2 today.  Ch 6 will be due 
tomorrow.  HOUR 2 Students are to complete pg 606 both excercises

11/10/09--Students were handed Chapter 6:  growing up in my neighborhood.  
Students should outline thoughts in mead composition notebook and then 
compose and write from the outline at the computer.  Students should save 
this work to their backpack--I will check their backpacks on Thursday to see 
the rough draft.  Students will print out final copy with photo, clip art on 
Friday, November 13, 2009.

11/9/09--Students are to redo exc 4 pg 604 accoring to instructions including 
identifying the suboerdinate clause as an adjective or adverbial clause.  In 
addition, students need to identify the word that indicates if it is an 
adjective or adverb clause.  Students will be checking Unit 10 vocabulary 
tomorrow.  Students will take a test on Units 9 & 10 vocabulary on Friday 
11/12/09.  In addition, students will need to revise and tyope Chapter 2 
Before I was there was and save it into their backpacks.  We will be in the 
computer lab on Thursday--students will be printing out chapter 2 in class on 
Thursday.  Therefore, if students do not turn in Chapter 2--a test grade- 
students will lose 10% of the grade.

11/2/09--Students are to complete Unit 9 vocab.  Students are to complete exc 
1 #11-25 pg 600, exc 2 #14-25 pg 602.--This is due tomorrow.  In addition, 
students were given a writer's workshop on Chapter 2--Before I was there 
was.  The rough draft will be due on Monday, November 9, 2009, with the final 
copy with picture due on Thursday, November 12, 2009.

10/28/09--Vocabulary Unit 9 will be due on Tuesday, November 3, 2009

10/28/09--Students are to have Chapter 8 movies typed, double-spaced, 
justified, titles of movies in Italics, with a picture due tomorrow.  Chapter 
7 The Crush should be typed, double spaced,with a picture saved in back pack 
and ready to print on Friday.  Students need to outline 20.3 and 20.3 for 
class tomorrow

10/27/09--Students outlined and began writing Chapter 7 "My favorite crush" 
in class; therefore, students are to have rough draft written for class 
tomorrow.  The final copy will be printed in the computer lab on Friday, 
OCtober 30, 2009.  Students should type final copy at home and save in back 
pack so that it can be printed out on Friday.  Vocab test over Units 7/8 
tomorrow.  The Movies is due--Chapter 8, title, movies in Italics, no 
staples, no name, a picture, justified--due Thrusday 10/29/09..Save the 
movies to the backpack so that it can be printed out at school

10/26/09--Students are to outline Chapter 20 table of contents pg 598, 20.1 
pg 599 and 20.2 pg 601.  Also, we will be checking unit 8 vocab tomorrow,.  
The test for Unit 7/8 will be on Wednesday, 10/28/09.  Vocabulary test will 
be given in English class; however, if students miss the test, it will be 
made up in their respective homerooms.  We are limited on the full Friday 
schedule; therefore, we will be working in this fashion to complete the 
vocabulary lessons

10/22/09--All students will take a test on Chapter 19 capitalization on 
Monday, October 26, 2009.  In addition all students are to write 3 paragraphs 
on the following topic from Father Greg's homily on Wednesday, October 21, 
2009.  "With great power comes greater responsibility, how does Father Greg 
challenge you to greater responsibility with the Pro-life movement?"  If 
students were not here on Wednesday, then they will write 3 paragraphs on one-
two beatitudes--Matthew Chapter 5

10/20/09--Students are to complete exc 1#1-10 exc 2#1-10 pg 592, exc 3#1-10, 
exc 4#1-10 pg 593 and exc 5#1-120, exc 6 #1-20 on pg 594 in English spiral. 
We will check these on Thrusday 10/22/09.  Students will have a test on Unit 
19 Capitalization on Monday 10/26/09  

10/19/09--VOCABULARY--students are to complete unit 7 and we will check on 
October 21.  Students are to complete unit 8 and we will check on Tuesday 
October 28.  Students will take Unit 7 & 8 Test on Wednesday October 28

10/19/09---All students are to outline pgs 587 and 589.  Students are also to 
complete exc 4 and 5 #1-20 both, pg 590 complete exc 6 & 7 #1-20 both.  

10/14/09--All students are to complete exc 1 pg 584 #15-25, pg 586 exc 2 #11-
25, and exc3 all on pg 586.  If students will not be here on Friday 10/1609, 
it is imperative that persuasive essay is turned in tomorrow.  Thank you.  
finally vocab unit 6 will be checked tomorrow.

10/13/09--Students are to outline pg 582, 583, 585 in English spiral.  
Students need to complete Unit 6 vocabulary---we will check it on Thursday 
October 15, 2009.  Students' final type-written, justified copy is due on 
Friday, October 16, 2009.

10/9/09--Students researched in the computer lab today; research on 1 of 4 
topics:  1)Uniform in public school is required/better performance.  2)
Students in Catholic school perform better in all areas.  3)Global warming 
effects the economy, environment, and production of goods.  4)People should 
practice living green.  STudents need to complete 1-3-1 rough draft essay.  
They will peer edit on Tuesday 10/13/09.  the final copy, double-spaced 
justified is due on Friday, 10/16/09.  This essay will be a test grade for 
first quarter an the quarter ends on Friday 10/16/09

10/7/09--Students are to play outside for 20 minutes and collect a minimum of 
20 words reflecting the season fall or their favorite sport/activity outdoors

10/6/09--Students are to get test signed.  In addition, students are  write 
the sentence that they had wrong and write the grammar rule for extra credit--
this ec is due tomorrow 10/7/09

10/5/09--Students are to outline pg 434 table of contents and pg 435 11.1 in 
grammar book.  Students are to complete Unit 5 vocabulary by Wednesday 10/7/09

10/2/090--Students will be tested on Unit 10 Monday 10/5/09.  In addition 
vocab unit 5 will be due on Wednesday 10/7/09

9/30/09--Students are to find an image on google.com that represents or 
symbolizes the Pledge of Allegiance.  Students should come prepared to type 
the pledge as well as download image and place on paper tomorrow.  We will be 
checking Unit 4 vocab tomorrow.  In addition, students will take a test on 
Units 3 & 4 on Friday, 10/2/09.  English test on Unit 10 Monday 10/5/09

9/28/09--All students are to complete page 422 and 429.  In addition, 
students must bring vocab book, English spiral and grammar book to class 
tomorrow.  Finally students were given an assignment on the Pledge of 
Allegiance--the homework piece is due on Wednesday 9/30/09.  The final copy 
is due on Friday 10/2/09

9/25/09--All students are tom complete exc 19 #1-20 pg 418, exc 20 #6-20 pg 
420 and exc 21 #1-20 pg 421--due Monday 9/28/09

9/24/09--All students are to complete pg 20 of vocab.  All students are to 
outline pg 419,  Hour1&2 are to outline pgs 421 and 423.  I will be checking 
all sections 10.1 through 10.tomorrow--this is a quiz grade

9/22/09--Hour 1 * Hour 2 students are to complete pg 414 exc 13 #6-20, exc 14

Hour 4 is to complete exc 14 #1-10---All students need to complete Unit 3

18/09--Students are to outline favorite movies in mead compostion 
notebook.  The sloppy copy or rough draft of this favorite movies is due on 
Tuesday, 9/22/09.  Students did receive a rubric on this.

9/16/09--All students are to bring jump drive tomorrow.  We will be in the 
computer lab working on favorite vacation.  Students should have the final 
copy typed and saved on jump drive.  In addition, students should be 
finalizing 1-3-1 essay on Family which is due on Friday, 9/18/09.  Vocab test 
over units 1 and 2 is on Friday 9/18/09

9/14/09--Students are to complete pg 406 #11-20 as we did in class today.  
Students are to complete the remaining two paragraphs for the 1-3-1 essay.  
We will be checking Unit 2 Vocab in class tomorrow--test will be Friday 
September 18, 2009.  We will be peer editing 1-3-1 essay in class tomorrow


9/10/09-All students are to complete pg 426  Exc 1#1-10 and exc 2#1-10 on 
looseleaf.  Students are to scan photograph of fav vacation at home or school-
If at school, then students need to make arrangements with Miss Jaksa--these 
photographs are to be scanned by Thursday morning--September 17, 2009.  
Finally, students were given a 1-3-1 essay today.  Students are to write a 
concept map, web or outline and then complete 3 paragraphs as a rough 
draftthat will be due on Monday, 9/14/09.  Total 1-3-1 essay rough draft is 
due Tuesday 9/15/09.  Final copy is due Friday 9/18/09.  This is a test 
grade.  Studens are to write on "Family is the link to our past, the bridge 
to our future."  Using this as a topic, how are you an integral part of 
family.  How do you  build fammily in home, at school, in your community?  
Reflect on this.  How does it apply to you.  We brainstromed and discussed in 
class various aspects of home, community, and school--this is a timely essay 
in many aspects.  Students need to use wash pg 2 for a variety of sentence 
structure as they wrote in notebooks today. 

9/3/09--Hour 1--Students are to complete exc 10 #1-20 pg 390, and exc 3&4 pg 
395.    Hour 2--students are to complete all of pg 390 exxc 9 and exc 10 and 
all of pg 392 exc 11 and exc 12.  Hour 4 students are to complete exc 10 #1-
20 pg 390 and exc 11 pg 392.  Vocabulary is due tomorrow as well

Exc 4 #1-20 pg 384.  Students are to oultine 9.3 pg 385.  Students are to 
work on revising favorite vacation by using page 1 of the composition check 
list--all due on Tuesday 9/1/09

8/27/09--Students are to create an outline or web on their favorite vacation 
in Mead composition notebook.  Students were given rubric.  We will be 
writing on favorite vacation in notebook tomorrow.  Students must have rough 
draft completed by Monday 8/31/09.  Finally, students are to outline Unit 9 
table of contents in notebook

8/26/09--Students are to outline Unit 9--table of contents pg 380, 9.1 Kinds 
of nouns pg 381, and 9.2 Compound nouns pg 383.  Students will also need 
composition checklist and mead composition notebook tomorrow 8/27/09.  I will 
check this in class tomorrow.  Remember to indent details and align main 
ideas to the left.  

8/24/09-0-Students will have a test on Unit 8 grammar on Wednesday, 8/26/09.

paper needs to be in the following order top to bottom:

  5)Research paper (Introduction, Body, conclusion)
  6)Bibliography
  7)Original rough draft with peer edited evaluation sheet
  8)Rough draft bibliography
  9)Disk or CD.  Students must submit essay, bibliography and title page as 
ONE document in WORD on a DISK or CD.  Student must label DISK or CD with 
student's name, school and teacher's name(Klein).  
  9)Eighth grade Research paper RUBRIC

Again this paper is a maximum of 1200 words and a minimum of 1175 wrods.  
REMEMBER paper must be free of plaigirism and will be verified for original 
wording through web-based educational services.  Those with passages copied 
directly from other sources, without proper citation, or containing vast 
amounts of quoted or minimally paraphrased material are subject to a lower 
grade.

Everything needs to be justified except for bibliography.
