Our word wall words are the focus of our spelling instruction for the first
semester. Word wall words are those words that all second graders need to
know how to spell. We focus on learning them for life, and not just for
the test on Friday. Once these words have been tested, they become "No
Excuse" words, words that must always be spelled correctly in daily work.
They become part of our word wall and can be used as a resource throughout
the year.
During the second semester, we focus our spelling instruction on
word families, those words that follow similar spelling patterns.

The focus of spelling instruction in the second quarter is on word families. There will now be ten words on each weekly list. Lists come home on Mondays and tests are given on Fridays.
