The students worked with play dough as they followed directions that paralleled the stages in the writing process. We brainstormed, created, added to, changed, took away from, and shared our final products with one another. This activity helped us see what happens during the stages in our writing: prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing. It was easy to see the connection from our play dough activity to our daily work in Writing Workshop.
