What are Elmont's school hours?
School begins at 8:50 and dismisses at 4:00.
Students are not to be in the
building prior to 8:40. There are a variety of
before school opportunities
that your child may want to take advantage of
during
the week. Be sure to check out what we have to
offer.
How do Scholastic Book Orders work?
We are in the business of creating lifelong
readers. We encourage you to
take advantage of the Scholastic Book Orders,
however they are optional.
They will be sent home at the first of every
month. You will have one week
to make selections. Please send the order form
and a check in an envelope
marked with your child's name. Books are usually
shipped within two weeks.
Students will be given a free book pick coupon on
their birthday. You may
help your child make their selection. Then send
just the order form back to
school. Books make great gifts too. If you need
an order kept a secret, just let me know and I'll
make sure you receive the order when it comes in.
How are birthdays celebrated throughout the year?
We generally celebrate birthdays at 2:30 just
before we go to music and pe.
You are welcome to bring treats from home if you
wish. We always try to
celebrate on the actual day, unless it falls on
the weekend or a day off. If
that happens, we will celebrate on the day before.
Summer birthdays will be
celebrated in the month of May. If a student's
birthday falls on June 12,
we celebrate on May 12.
May we bring snacks to school?
Snacks are not provided by the school. However,
you are welcome to bring a
healthy snack to school, if you wish. Some
healthy choices include:
pretzels, crackers, fruit/veggies, raisins,
granola bars, etc. Students may
not bring water bottles to school in second
grade. Exceptions may be made
with the teacher if a medical condition requires
frequent water intake.
What if I need to make a transportation change?
Students will follow their normal transportation
plan unless a note is sent
to school. Please be sure you let us know of any
changes in pick up at the
end of the day. This is for the safety of your
child.
When is the best time to contact Mrs. Selbach?

this is the best time to
contact me, I am also available before and after
school. You are also
