Animal Project

                                      Endangered Animal Project

There are four components to the endangered animal project: research
information about an endangered animal, prepare a PowerPoint presentation,
write a letter from their animal, and create a 2 or 3-dimenisionial visual
aid. Most of the research, as well as the Power Point presentation and the
animal letter will be done in school.

Research - Animal notes are due - November 7

Most of the research will be done in the computer lab using the
Internet. Students will be permitted to continue their search using
the Internet at home and reference books. They need a minimum of 3 -
resources. All resource used must be sited.

        Required elements: see research organizer
        Animal’s characteristics
        Animal’s habitat
Animal’s place in a food chain – we will complete together in class
Endangered - Why ? What has been done?

Power Point Presentation – Due November 16
Each child will create a minimum of 5-7 PowerPoint slides. The
multi-media presentation should answer the following questions about
        the endanger animal:

*What does the animal look like?
       *Where does the animal live?
       *Why is the animal endangered?
*What is being done to protect this animal?

Animal Letter – Due November 16
Students will take the information gathered and imagine that the
animal can write a letter to humans explaining the kind of
environment that it needs in order to live. Students will be given
time in class to write their letters.

2 or 3-dimensional visual – Due November 19
Students will use the information gathered to construct a visual aid
showing the animal’s habitat and the predator and prey relationship.
This is the one element of the project that will be constructed at
home. Requirements for the visual aid will be sent home later.
Students should not begin their visual aid until the research is
       completed.
