Dear Parents,
We have been very busy these last few weeks, especially since the ITBS/COGAT tests have been added to our daily schedule. I am happy to inform you that your children have adjusted well to taking these tests, especially following the test directions. I am proud of each one of them for working so hard. They seem very relaxed and rested each morning. I would like to encourage my children to continue getting plenty of rest, and eating a good breakfast each morning this week. Testing should be completed by next Monday. Thank you for your support in this matter.
READING - We will spend this week relaxing with the delightful chapter book, Freckles Juice. It’s a story about a boy who wants freckles so his mother won’t know if his neck is dirty. If she doesn’t know it’s dirty, he won’t have to wash it. Sharon, a classmate, decides to take advantage of Andrew’s desire for freckles and sells him a recipe for freckles. From there comes a whole slew of actions and consequences. The children should love this lighthearted story!
LANGUAGE - The children will be recognizing and writing different kinds of sentences: declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory.
MATH - We will continue daily practice of place value. The children will also learn to tell time to the nearest 5 minutes, quarter hour, and half hour, and explore time to the nearest minute. They will find elapsed time, use ordinal numbers and the calendar, and make a schedule. This will bring us to the end of our chapter. Chapter test will be next week.
SOCIAL STUDIES — We will discuss different landforms and bodies of water that make communities unique, and influence how it influences the way people live, work, and have fun. We will explore communities’ need for natural resources and ways people can work together to protect them. We will be visiting a wonderful website to look for ways to recycle, reuse, and conserve our natural resources. www.epa.gov/recyclecity/ Children may revisit this site at home to learn more. Spelling - We will take a slight departure from working out of our spelling workbook. Instead the children will review and practice spelling numbers. They were given a packet of activities to help reinforce mathematical vocabulary which will be due on Friday. Spelling test will also be given on Friday. The words are:
number eleven four thirteen eight fifteen twelve thirty fourteen fifty twenty forty ninety two seven CHALLENGE WORDS thousand subtraction hundred
RELIGION - Thank you for working with your child on Project Genesis. Their responsibility charts look wonderful! This week we will discuss families, which is where we first learn to love and
receive love. Families are important because they help children act as images of God.
