Biography Project
For the American Hero report, students will be required to turn in a written
report and give an oral presentation about their hero. Each written report
should include the following information.
* A heading showing the name of the person, the title of the book, and the
author.
* Paragraph one should include the date and place of birth, and any
significant family or childhood events. Remember that a paragraph must
be at least three sentences long.
* Paragraph two should include events or information about how this person
became famous or prominent. You may include the setting or where the
character spent most of his/her time. You may include any problems or
obstacles the character had to overcome.
* Paragraph three should include the accomplishments, awards, and/or any
contributions they made to society.
* Paragraph four should include your opinion about why you think this person
is important and what they learned from this persons life. There should
also be a concluding sentence.
Oral reports should include the information from the first three paragraphs
of the written report only presented in the first person (as if the student
was the character). The information in the last paragraph should be given
as a conclusion for the oral report. This last part is not presented in the
first person, but rather just shared with the class. Students have the
option of memorizing their presentation or putting significant facts on one
index card. Oral presentation should be about 1 to 2 minutes long.
Students will have the opportunity to dress like their American hero for the
oral presentation.
**Please note: Time will be given in class to help students write reports
